John (Jack) Robert Scott

John Jack Robert Scott
April 6, 1933 – November 28, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa on Sunday, November 28, 2021.

Jack was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and William Scott, sister Eleanor and brother Bill and in-laws George and Gladys Poynter. He is survived by his wife Doreen of 68 years, daughter Susan (Jim) Zimmer, John and Marlene, Joanne Scott and Dean, Gregg and Bernice, his twelve grandchildren, his nine great grandchildren, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and his numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was born in Winnipeg, lived in Brandon, and Calgary but the 30 plus years he lived at Winnipeg Beach were his favorite. Jack loved to spend time with his grandchildren especially helping them to make boats for boat races on Boundary Creek. He also had a strong affection for animals. You could always find Jack feeding the chipmunks, squirrels, and birds at Winnipeg Beach and giving treats underneath the dinner table for the dogs in his family. He spared no expense to make sure the animals were cared for.

In his younger years he loved curling, coaching hockey and cheering on the Blue Bombers. Jack was a member of the Shrine and played drums in the Orchestra. Jack started working for his father at W. A. Scott & Sons Cartage Company.

He went on to work for Burns Foods where he continued to manage their long-haul transportation system. Jack played a major role in coordinating the transportation of athletes and dignitaries for the 1999 Pan Am Games.

He took on managing the double decker buses for the Paddlewheel where he also enjoyed working on the boats. His sense of humor and his laugh will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cancer Care and Alzheimer’s Association.

  1. Jack was a lovely human being, kind, generous, funny and full of life. I know he is with the rest of the Scotts now playing crib, making sure everyone around him is taken care of and of course organising the trucks.
Our world is a little poorer without Jack in it.

Much love to Doreen, and family,
Barbara and Dick & Mariska Maguire

I will always remember fondly the fun times spent at Winnipeg Beach. Gord & Jack always managed to catch up on their various activities over a drink or two each summer when we returned to Winnipeg on holidays.
Leanne, Dawn & Susan never let Uncle Jack forget about the ONE time he had trouble getting a fire going in the fireplace.
Sincere condolences to Doreen, Susan, John, Joanne & Gregg and their families at this time.

  4. My sincerest condolences to you, Doreen, and your family. May all of you cherish your memories of Jack and the life he led. I will always remember him as a friend of my Dad and Mom, and a good neighbour.
