John (Jack) Arthur Cox

June 5, 1957 – December 2, 2019

Peacefully, with family by his side, Jack passed away from complications with cancer at the Health Science Center. He is now without all the pain he had endured over the past few months.

Jack is survived by his loving partner of 19 years Shirley Ross; his mother Marion Cox; sister Barbara (Tom) Mclaughlin; brothers Bryan and Gary (Marlene) Cox; nieces Sarah (Joe) Nowicki, Vicki Parisian and Hannah Cox; great nephews Joshua and Ethan Nowicki. He is also survived by step-daughters Lisa Ross and Tracey (Dean) Smith; grandchildren Abigail and Rowan Wheeler, and Brooklynn and Madison Smith. He also leaves behind his special aunt Fran and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends and acquaintances.

He was predeceased by his father Harold Cox and step-son-in-law Reg Wheeler.

He was born in Winnipeg in 1957 and grew up in East Kildonan and graduated from Kildonan East Collegiate with a chef’s course.

Jack had a strong work ethic and had worked hard most of his life, with much of his younger years spent working for his dad’s bakery in East Kildonan.  He later spent many years as a self-employed painter contracted primarily with Shannon Derie until his cancer diagnosis in February, 2019.

Jack loved life and being with family and friends.  He enjoyed, along with his partner Shirley the years spent going to various concerts, along with many road trips and watching all types of sports especially the Jets and the Goldeyes.  He was always cheering from the sidelines at his grandchildren’s baseball and soccer games and even the many dance recitals and school concerts.

The family would like to thank Dr. Maksymiuk, Dr. Leylek and all the staff at CancerCare for their kindness. Also a special thank you to the paramedics, doctors and nurses at Health Science Center Emergency for the kindness shown to him.

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., at Silver Heights Restaurant, 2169 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Mb., or a charity of choice.
