August 7, 1941 – June 25, 2020

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our Father, Joao, who passed away suddenly, a few weeks short of his 79th birthday. Joao was born in Minho, Portugal on August 7, 1941. He passed on June 25, 2020 in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada.

He is now reunited in heaven with his loving wife Paula. He is survived by his children Fatima, Johnny and Joe; and his beloved grandchildren Evan, Emily, Zeca and Zoey. Joao comes from a large family and will be fondly remembered by his extended family members in Europe. He also has a huge following of friends in Winnipeg that will miss him dearly.

After serving in the Army in the 1970’s, Joao brought his wife and daughter to Canada to start a new life. Joao was a painter by profession and is remembered as a hardworking man who would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He is also remembered as a loving husband, an awesome dad and a loyal friend. He enjoyed singing, dancing and playing cards with friends. He loved to entertain and preferred making his own wine. He certainly knew how to barbeque, especially at Casa Do Minho festivities; one of the many roles he played during his involvement with the Portuguese community. When he wasn’t entertaining, he would turn to watch soccer and hockey matches on T.V. His kind gestures, like making sure the children had fresh fruit to snack on, demonstrated his love for his family. The well-being of his family is what mattered most to him.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the funeral and interment will be by invitation only. If you wish to pass along condolences, please post them below on the website.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, an expression of sympathy or memorial donation may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, in honor of our mother, as that is what dad would have wanted.

“The smell of fresh paint will always remind us of you dad. May you rest in peace, we’ll miss you.”

With my deepest sympathy to Fatima, Johnny, and Joey and the grandkids. Your family was a part of my life growing up, and your parents and you will always be in my heart.
    With loving hugs,
    Ana
