Joan Marie Ranick (nee Lemke)

Joan Marie Ranick nee Lemke Jan2020 361

May 17, 1950 – September 30, 2021

On Thursday, September 30, 2021, after a valiant 16 year struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, Joan passed away peacefully, with her husband of 48 years, Ken, and sister Linda, at her side.

Joan was predeceased by her father Eric, and sister-in-law Janet. She is survived by her husband Ken, mother Margaret, sister Linda, brothers Eric(Jonine) and Dan(Val), brother-in-law Allan, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Joan spent the majority of her working career at CP Rail, where she retired from, after 36 years of service. She started as a keypunch operator, progressed to running trades, payroll, and finally a position in the Customer Service Centre in Grain Terminations.
Upon her retirement, she received a tribute from her associates at the Canadian Grain Commission in Thunder Bay as an honest, caring and most dedicated person, never turning down any request she had from ‘Her Boys’, as she referred to them.

Joan and Ken enjoyed many memorable vacations. Among them were cruises to the Southern Caribbean, a trip along the Coastal Highway in California, from San Diego to San Francisco, and several trips to Florida and BC.They also enjoyed cheering for the Jets and the Blue Bombers, together.

Joan was a caring, thoughtful and kind-hearted person, always thinking of others before herself. She never complained about her own problems. Her strength and perseverance throughout her struggle with PD was admired by many, especially her husband, her family, and many friends at Joy Lutheran Church, The Enclave, and elsewhere.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to COVID restrictions, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and support staff at Victoria Hospital 5N, for their comfort and care of Joan during her final days. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Parkinson’s Canada, or to a charity of your choice, in memory of Joan.

  7. We first met Joan and Ken when we moved to the Enclave 6 years ago. Their friendly, caring attitude was so welcoming and from there our friendship grew.
We were amazed at Joan’s tenacity in coping with her Parkinson’s disease! She greeted everyone with a smile and a cheery hi as she made her rounds around the halls and the grounds of the Enclave.
At gatherings she made her rounds making sure everyone was having a good time.
We will miss her! Our memories of her are only pleasant. She encouraged all of us to cope with what life has handed us and keep moving on!
Our condolences to Ken and her family.
