Jean Mercse (nee Hindley, Trupp)

Jean Mercse nee Hindley Trupp
Feb 10, 1935 – Feb 17, 2024

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandma, Nanny, Aunt and friend at the age of 89.

She has left us to join her family and friends who have already made the step to Heaven to see her Loving God’s open arms. She was so kind hearted, very generous and a devout Christian.

Jean will be forever remembered by her 6 children: Judy (Chuck), JoAnne (Dave), Leroy (Connie), Leslie (Angie), Paulina and Theresa (Don).

She has 11 grandchildren: Brandy, Melanie, Pamela, Holly, Darci, Bryce, Cory, Ryan, Tabitha, Nicole and Jessica. Her pride and joy were her 13 great grandchildren: Justin, Kaylee, Madison, Landon, Kelton, Serene, Norah, Eleanor, Wells, Caiden, Makealea, Parker and Saedie.

Jean had many talents but her best one was the gift of gab. She could talk about anything and everything to make connections with everyone she came in contact with.

She loved to bake and cook to feed people and made sure your belly was full. When she stayed at church for the lunch gatherings, her dish was always big enough to feed many people and waited for everyone to eat before she would. Recipes were her joy and made many scrapbooks with any recipe you would want to try.

She also loved her garden, doing word search and puzzles and many of those were glued so all her hard work would last forever. Her passion was helping others and above all her cherished family. She was known to many as the cookie lady, Nurse Mercse and the energizer bunny.

Jean was born to Raymond Goodrich and Mildred (Evelyn) Fishers (Dease). After 5 months she was given up for her adoption. A couple with a 14 year old daughter (Florence) mentioned to the pastor at their church camp meeting in Saskatoon that they were looking to adopt a baby girl. So off they went to the adoption agency.

She was the only girl there but Lila and Jim Hindley were the lucky ones to receive her in their arms. They lived in Fort-al-la-Corne, SK for 10 ½ years before moving to a farm in Whitewood SK so that they could be closer to family.
This is where she grew up with her younger brother and older sister.

At age 18 she was offered a job in Winnipeg where she lived for the rest of her life. She met her first husband Arnold Trupp and they had 5 children.

Then after their divorce she went on with her life and met her second husband Charlie Mercse and they had a daughter Theresa. They were married for 45 years before his passing.

Jean will be missed by her many friends and relatives.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at 7 PM on Monday, Feb 26 at Seventh Day Adventist Church 1314 Henderson Hwy with dainties to follow.

She loved listening to her records so she would like the kids to have the opportunity to create music.

  1. I can’t believe we lost such a gem. Jean’s kindness and generosity were unmatched. You always put others first, and the world needs more people like you. Your absence will be felt by many, and it’s a shame the family won’t have your positive energy around anymore. I know Darci and Bryce had a great grandma. My deepest condolences.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. My fond memories of Sister Jean are so precious. One of her ministries was to keep people’s birthdays and write them cards when the birthday came. She also called people to find out how they were doing. And she could talk. I will always remember Sister Jean. Rest well daughter of God till the morning.

  6. Gramma,
As I celebrated my bday yesterday, I often kept looking at my phone to see if I missed your call. Each time I checked, there was nothing 💔 I’m missing you terribly, as is everyone else that came in contact with you. Throughout my life I have experienced many obstacles, trauma, challenges etc. you were there by my side each and every time. Pushing me, guiding me and most importantly supporting and loving me. After my car accident, if it weren’t for you I would have given up on life at the young age of 18. I just want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart ❤️ I love and miss you each and every hour that passes. Please say hello to grampa. Until we meet again 😘 xoxo

  7. It’s been a year since you left us Mom. A year of not hearing your voice, seeing you smile or laugh, feeling the warmth of your hugs! My heart still aches for you, but knowing that you are resting in peace provides a sense of solace. Thank you for being my guardian angel this past year. I hope you can feel my love and hugs each and every day we are apart. I love and miss you Mom !
    Judy
