Ivy (Lorraine) Brucki nee Harp

Ivy Lorraine Brucki nee Harp

December 12, 1940 – March 30, 2025

Peacefully, and with Mike, Krissy, and Ry by her side, our beloved Lorraine passed away on March 30, 2025, at the age of 84.

Lorraine, twin sister Lucille (deceased), and brothers Bill and Jim were born and raised on a farm in Treherne by parents Fred and Eva (both deceased).

As a young adult, she moved to Winnipeg where she met and then married her husband, of over 62 years, Mike. Lorraine was working for Manitoba Medical up until their first child, Michael was born in 1966. Kristine ‘Krissy’ followed in 1969, and Lorraine was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed coffee dates and outings with girlfriends, gardening, baking, and playing Atari games while the kids were at school. She greatly enjoyed the years with their camper and later at the Wendigo cabin. Fishing, picking berries, having drinks while playing cards or singing and playing guitar around the campfire with friends gave her so much joy. She was called ‘Mom’ by all her kid’s friends.

In 1989, Mike and Lorraine moved to Cook’s Creek where they enjoyed many years before returning to Winnipeg in 2001. Their farm was her paradise and her never-ending yard work, fruit trees, vegetable and flower gardens kept her very busy. Only grandchild Devin ‘Ryan’ was the light of her life and playing kickball and board games during his sleepovers at the farm were favorite pastimes.

Once back in Winnipeg and with a much-downsized workload Lorraine was able to engross herself with reading books and watching movies while in her older age, she often dodged the midday hot summer sun.

Lorraine had COPD which she managed well for many years, but the last few months were most difficult and she struggled more often with different aspects of her condition. She was comforted in her last days that she was able to have recently seen several out-of-town family members, Ryan’s wedding to Zoé in November, and met and held her first great-grandniece, Marcella who was born in February.

We hope that Lori found greener grass and weedless dirt on the other side and that her and Lucy are working away getting dirt stuck under their nails while looking for the monarch caterpillars that she was so passionate about.

As per Lorraine’s wishes, no funeral will be arranged. Cremation will take place and a private gathering will be held at the family home at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Manitoba Lung Association in her memory.

The guys here at Mensheds are sorry to hear of the passing of Lorraine. We would like to express our heart felt condolences.
Those of us who knew you know that you both had a love of flowers and gardening, and you love of building oblisks to support the climbing plants.
We now have over 100 members who are grateful for your role in establishing our Mensheds group even though they haven’t met you! You are always welcome to drop in to the shed for coffee. I would love to introduce you to the guys.
We are thinking of you at this difficult time!
