With heavy hearts, we announce that Helen Ruth Lockhart (née Rempel) passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks General Hospital on February 18, 2025, at the age of 78 years.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Mary Rempel. She leaves behind her son Dallas Turnbull of Winnipeg; daughter Meaghan (Chris) Erbus and grandchildren Mylo and Makai of East Selkirk; sisters Mary Ann (Hank) Wiebe of Winkler and Elizabeth (Eugene) Andryo of East St. Paul; brother John Rempel of Winnipeg and former spouse John Lockhart as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Ruth was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and spent her formative years growing up in Winkler and Winnipeg. A bright student, Ruth graduated from Miles Macdonell Collegiate in 1964. Ruth’s professional life included owning and operating two businesses: Sugar & Spice Bulk & Health Foods in Carman and Mother’s Pantry in Morden and later, providing payroll services for several companies.
A loving mother and Oma, Ruth made an impact on everyone she cared for throughout her life. She was generous with her time and love, especially with her grandchildren Mylo and Makai. Ruth enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, sewing, traveling, and baking abundantly for Christmas. She cherished camping trips, which she began taking with her children, Dallas and Meaghan, when they were just infants.
Ruth will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital for the kindness and care they provided to Ruth.
In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, a public funeral service will not be held. The immediate family will gather for a celebration of Ruth’s life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harvest Manitoba.
