January 2, 1929 – April 11, 2021
With deep sorrow, the family announces the sudden passing of Helen Chatfield on Sunday April 11, 2021.
Mom will be forever remembered by daughter Deborah and husband Blair MacAulay, granddaughters Justina Cruickshank, Kate Logan (MacAulay) and husband Mike Logan, great grandsons Hamish and Oliver.
Son Al Chatfield and Cherie, grandson Dustin Chatfield (Jen) and granddaughter Ashley (Tyson), along with many nieces and nephews from Winnipeg and Hamilton, ON and BC.
Mom was pre-deceased by her loving husband Mel Chatfield in 2013, her parents Daniel and Justina Kahlian and daughter in law Lynne Chatfield as well as all brothers and sisters from both sides of the family.
In Mom’s 92 years she experienced so much and was extremely strong.
A caring, loving woman, putting everyone before herself, always listening to everyone’s problems and offering advise that provided a positive perspective and usually ended in a laugh. She loved to make everything from scratch, enjoyed knitting, gardening and most of all teaching those around her those skills to enjoy life and go with what life hands you in stride.
She was a very independent woman. Mom and dad lived in their East Kildonan home all their married lives where mom stayed until 2019 before moving to River Ridge ll A. L. which mom loved with the amazing staff.
Mom was as an inspiration to her children and grandchildren, to show strength, and look after each other together as family.
The family would like to thank mom’s nurse, Ellen and both Dr. Bergman and Dr. Hamlin from Concordia who showed compassion and understanding at a very difficult time. Also, we would like to thank mom’s neighbors Eric and Mike who helped her so much at her home before moving to River Ridge.
A private service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021.
