October 3, 1954 – October 9, 2023 

It is with great sadness we announce the Passing of Heinz-Viktor Bergen, at the age of 69.

He is survived by, wife Karen, sons Steven & Matthew, mom Helene, sister Inge (husband Herman), brother’s Helmut (wife Shelly) Kornielus (wife Sharon), and Frank. Father-in-law James Milne. 5 nieces, 2 nephews, 6 great nieces, 2 great nephews, and many cousins. Heinz will be greatly missed by many friends.

He was predeceased by his father Viktor, brother Oskar, nephew Dale, and mother in-law Brenda Kerr (nee Craddock).

Heinz was born on Oct 3, 1954, in Neu-Halbstadt, Paraguay. He spent 7 years of his childhood in Paraguay before immigrating to Canada with his family in 1961, they settled in Winnipeg Manitoba. Heinz worked at Safeway in the bakery where he met his wife Karen then later in life moved onto Oak Point Service and worked there until his retirement at the age of 65. Heinz loved traveling with his wife all over Canada and the States, visiting many attractions and casinos.

He loved taking care of his lawn and garden, where he grew many great beets and made wonderful raspberry jams. He enjoyed all things space exploration related, taking part in the SETI at home project for many years and watching every shuttle and rocket launch. He also enjoyed playing golf with his brother and friends.

Rest in peace my love and my best friend, you are forever in our hearts.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday November 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the Douglas Mennonite Church located at 1517 Rothesay Street.

    I remember when we were kids, my dad would take us to the yearly Grey Cup parties and Heinz was always a ray of sunshine. He will greatly be missed. Condolences to Karen, Matthew and Steven.
