July 5, 1951 – April 10, 2020
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Heather McCheyne on April 10, 2020.
Born July 5, 1951, Heather is survived by her son Colin; his wife Jenny; and the sunshine of her life, her grandson Henry; brothers Charles Merrick (Glenda), Dale and Lanny; sisters B.J. Briggs (Don), Lynn Wiley, Danelle Fulawka (Leo) and Shawne Cook (Jason); and their families along with uncles, aunts, cousins and her dearest friend of over 60 years Frances McQuiggin.
She was predeceased by her parents Peggy and Danny Merrick and her best furry friend Murphy.
Mom attended Isbister Elementary, Gordon Bell High School and Red River Community College, graduating with Honors from the Advanced Counselling Program. She worked for the province of Manitoba Department of Family Services, as a Case Co-Ordinator for many years, and took great pride in helping people and serving the public. Retiring in 2008 her leisure was filled spending time with her family, travelling, doing many DIY home renos and tending her garden.
She was a long-time member of John Osborn VC ANAF #1, filling the position of Bingo Administrator, and the Secretary/Treasurer of the John Osborn Jolly Senior’s Association.
Her kindness and generosity of spirit was only exceeded by her sense of humour. Her love for children and animals and the need to protect, care and speak for them was a great issue for her.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society are appreciated.
“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near…. still loved, still missed, and forever dear.”
