Gwen Walker, aged 83 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 27, 2021 at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Mb.

Gwen leaves to celebrate her life, her only remaining sibling, her sister Maxine Merrell (Walker) and her family; husband Scott, son Todd Merrell (Hayley) and their children, Dexter and Vivienne; daughter Adrienne Dennis (Merrell) and her husband Kevin.

Gwen is also survived by many other nieces and nephews, Marsha Stanley (Graham) and her husband David and their children Tyla and Travis along with their children, Shelley Graham, Bill Graham, Dean Lanuke, Tracy Kane (Lanuke), husband John and their daughter Rachel, Sherry Komachi (Walker) and her daughter Tamara (Steve) and their children, Tom Walker and his wife (Karen) and their son Brady.

Gwen was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Carrie Walker, sister Lorna Lanuke and her husband Eddie, sister Donna Graham and her husband Gary, as well as her brother Tom.

Gwen was a psychiatric nurse during a lengthy career and worked in hospitals in Brandon, Mb., Weyburn, Sk., Calgary and Ponoka, Ab. She received her training in Brandon and was the gold medallist of her graduating class. She retired in Ponoka in 2007 and moved to Winnipeg in 2008 to be closer to Maxine and her family.

Gwen was well known among her friends and family as having an exceptionally sharp wit and sense of humour. She never held back on her point of view and is perhaps most fondly remembered as a story teller and anecdotist.

Her extended family wish to thank the Palliative Care coordinator nurses and doctors, especially the doctors, nurses and staff of E3 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg for the incredible care and kindnesses extended to Gwen during the past months and weeks prior to her passing. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date in the cemetery at Crandall, Mb where Gwen’s parents and her brother Tom are buried.

Should people so wish, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.
