It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather and GreatGrandfather, Husband, Brother, Brother in law and uncle, Germain Roy.
Dad fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past 5 yrs. He left our world on Nov 25th, 2024, surrounded by family. He passed in the loving arms of his wife Dolores of 60 yrs to the loving arms of Jesus in his eternal home of glory.
Left to mourn, are his wife Dolores, his sons Mario (Vandy), René (Sheila), Rhéal as well as his two daughters Carol (Osorio), & Monica (Gary). His Grandchildren Melissa (Max), Ashley (Edgar), Mya (Andrew), Caitlin (Thomas), Cassandra, Stephane ( Amanda), Liam, Joshua, Tyler, Noah (Maddi). His Great-grandchildren, Aiden, Magdaline, Edison, Braelynn, Cadence ,Ansley, Grace, Gloria, Gabriella, Alexa, Riley and Ruby.
He was predeceased by his parents Antonio Sr. & Marie Louise Roy, his in laws Armand & Jeanne Carriere, along with numerous siblings and in laws.
Dad was born and raised in a small French community by the name of Otterburne. He lived in multiple houses there and even moved to Wpg when his sons were young. He ultimately returned to his roots, bought his Father’s house and raised his family there for 43 years. Dad took pride in his home and yard and being that Dad’s trade was carpentry and construction, he taught his sons how to work with their hands and they helped him with many of the renovations he performed on the house through the years. Dad was a Knights of Columbus member. He also served as town councillor for the municipality of DeSalaberry for almost a decade. Mom and Dad enjoyed camping with their young family. They also travelled to BC, Alaska and Arizona.
Mom and Dad moved from the family home, to Wpg in 2015 and settled in St. Vital where Mom will remain at this time.
We would like to extend thanks to Dad’s primary physician Dr.Mahmood Nasir along with his Cancer Care physician Dr.Donald Houston for their exceptional, compassionate care of Dad through the years. Also a big thank you to the Community Palliative Care team, comprised of a great case coordinator, Dr’s, and nurses, primarily Shawn who assisted us in Dad’s day to day care. Mom would also like to thank her children for giving exceptional care to their Dad in his time of need.
You were loved by many and will be missed more than you know. This is not goodbye, but merely see you later. We will be reunited one day!
2CORINTHIANS 5:6-9
6 Because we know therefore and we are convinced that as long as we dwell in the body, we are absent from Our Lord;
7 For it is by faith that we walk and not by sight.
8 Because of this we trust and we long to depart from the body and to be with Our Lord. 9 We are diligent that, whether away from home or an inhabitant, we may be pleasing to him.
As per Germain’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
I see countless Christmas trees around the world below,
With tiny lights, like heaven’s stars, reflecting in the snow.
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away that tear,
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear,
But the sounds of music can’t compare with the Christmas choir up here!
I have no words to tell you the joy their voices bring,
For it is beyond description to hear the Angel’s sing.
I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart.
But I am not so far away, we really aren’t apart.
So be happy for me dear ones, you know I hold you near.
And be glad I’m spending Christmas with Jesus this year.
I send you each a special gift from my home in heaven above.
I send you each a memory of my undying love.
After all “Love” is the gift, more precious than pure gold.
It was always most important in the story Jesus told.
So, have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear.
Love and keep each other
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus this year.

My deepest sympathy. My thoughts are with you all.
Dad was the best father in law anyone could ask for. His contagious laugh, ever present smile and cute voices he would use when talking to his grand children , are some of things I will miss about him. He was such a positive person , kind to the core and so supportive whenever we would talk to him. People like him are very rare and we are so very lucky to have had him in our lives. I wish I could have one more visit with him , just to tell him again how much he was loved.
