January 1, 1945- April 26, 2024
After a long illness, George Andrews quietly passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, knowing we loved him.
George was an outgoing personality, with a crazy sense of humour, he had a way of making you laugh. Left to carry on his sense of humour are his children, Lora (Jeff), Kim (Victor), Scott (Leanne), and Krystle (Darrell), his grandchildren Kellen (Lexi), Colby (Coel), Riley (Kyra), Liam, Josie, Tessa, Kiptyn, Evan, and Alaura; his three great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his extended family, friends and his neighbours, the Szul family, who called him papa George.
He was predeceased by his infant son Neil James Azarie, parents Marjorie and Howard, sister Eileen, and brother Bill. Dad had a way of finding new love and was blessed to share companionship with Linda MacVicar; they spent many loving years before she passed in 2013. His favourite of all was his dog, Maggie, who was constantly by his side.
As a teen, he developed his lifelong hobby of working on Ford cars. His nickname was “Flat Head George.” George and his dad, or his friends, could be found in the backyard on Country Club Boulevard working on a motor or fixing a part. Once, when his mom returned home from work to her surprise and disgust, George and his dad were working on a transmission in the kitchen, which promptly went back outside!
In 1965, George embarked on his career as a plumber apprentice and attended Red River College. He worked for Powers Regulator Company and then Johnson’s Controls as a Pneumatic Technician for 14 years before moving on to Honeywell. In 1987, George joined the University of Manitoba in the maintenance department, eventually becoming the Control Shop Supervisor before his retirement in 2010.
George loved curling at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Kirkfield Park. In his later years, he played snooker, and Friday nights he joined his friends at the Army, Navy, and Air Force (#283 and #1) for a laugh or two.
Sadly, George developed Lewy body dementia in conjunction with Parkinson’s Disease; in 2022 he moved into a care home. His quick wit, laughter, and that mischievous glint in his eyes made him a fast favourite with the staff and residents.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff at The Convalescent Home for their unwavering care and support.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask you to consider donating to a charity of your choice in his memory.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 17, 1:00 pm at #283-ANAVETS 3584 Portage Ave.
“Dad, until we see you again, be good, and if you can’t be good, be careful.”

I always enjoyed my visits with George. His sense of humour “went both ways” as he graciously endured my teasing him about his “many wives”. It has been said Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly—fly on George! ❤️
Now, now, what ever do you mean! LOL.
Thank you for the giggles, that was the thing about dad, he could dish it out but he could take it too!
Scott and Crystal, we were very sorry to hear about your dad. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for your kind words.
To the family I would like to express my sincere condolences. George was an amazing controls man and great supervisor who always was there to support you. He had a crazy sense of humour with his buddy Eddy you would be falling down laughing. RIP George you made this world a better place.
Dad’s stories of work and his buddies always made him laugh as he recounted them. Especially the nick-names he had for them. He could fix anything. Thank you Dave for sharing your comments. Made me smile.
