February 4th, 1942 – May 15th, 2021
Peacefully On Saturday, May 15th, 2021 Walter passed away at the age of 79. His wife Eleanor at his side in the
Poseidon Care Home. He battled cancer for over 2yrs.
Dad was born in 1942 to Anastasia and Alec Kohuch in the district of Mears, Manitoba in the R.M. of Rossburn.
He was the youngest of 13 siblings. His oldest brother Fred was already 25yrs old when he was born. Plenty of chores and responsibilities
growing up on the farm. Carrying water from the well and melting snow in the winter for an upstairs bath. Once a week if you were lucky, weather permitting. If you didn’t eat your supper, Dad joked, then he’d have to go straight to bed. A one-room school named Chelnycki that taught grades 1-8. Then he stayed at a relatives boarding in Rossburn to complete grade 9. When he was 15yrs of age, Baba sold the farm and they moved to Winnipeg along with some of his brothers and sisters. Dad always talked about growing up on the farm and his love of Rossburn.
In Wpg, he went to Gordon Bell High. The Navy 1961 was next, with training at HMCS Cornwallis, NS. Then stationed in Esquimalt, BC with tours to Hawaii and San Diego.
He then took an accounting course and worked at various places. Dad had many jobs driving cab, delivering milk for Cresent Dairies to the Lockport area. Worked for Wpg School Division as a Custodian and maintained the Boilers. Being a Commissioner also part-time to support the family. Selling World Book and Electrolux vacuums as well.
Walter married Eleanor Skihar on June 3rd, 1967. Together they raised 3 children. Dwayne, Kevin, & Shelly. He enjoyed his family gatherings, spending time with his grandchildren, and the simple things that life offers. When he met someone he was quick to ask your last name and where you were from.
In Nov 2019 he moved into Poseidon Care Home.
Walter is predeceased by his daughter Shelly Bodnar. Brothers: Fred, Alec, Roy, Nick, Peter, & Don, Kohuch.
Sisters: Dora Maydaniuk, Mary Maydaniuk.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Brother Terry Kohuch, Dryden, Ont. Sister’s Anne Ariss, Brandon, MB, Stella Andrusiuk, Wpg, MB. Mildred Sakundiak, Calgary, Alta.
Sons: Dwayne, Kevin. Grandkids: Cassandra, Dillion, Kadyn, Alexis.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Poseidon Care Home. Gedo was a man with a kind heart and would do a favor or help someone out no questions asked.
Thank you to everyone for all your phone calls and texts.
As per Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date, to celebrate his life.
Also many thanks to Father John Mostivski for his visits to Dad.

Sorry to read the loss of your father. I remember Mr. W. Kohuch always smiling as he cleaned at Laverendrye School. My condolences from the Fisher family.
