April 12, 1950 – February 22, 2023
It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gary after a brief illness with family by his side.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Baxter; son Jason Sleva; and his parents Ben and Lii Sleva.
Left to mourn his passing are his sons Christopher and Jeremy Sleva; grandchildren Jazmine (great-grandson J.J.) Devon and Kaylee Sleva, all of whom he was so proud of. He also leaves one sister Darlene Demski, his nieces and many cousins.
Gary loved his family, nature, gardening and flowers. He enjoyed spending time with family at the old homestead in Gull Lake. This was his peaceful retreat.
He met life’s challenges with positivity, optimism, and a wonderful sense of humour. He was employed in the construction trade all his life and worked on many buildings and projects in the City. In his own words he said “I’ve worked hard and had a good life.” He will be missed by all who knew him.
Thank you to all of his friends at Granite House for their support and kindness over the last year, he spoke kindly of you often.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in the Spring.
Details to follow.

So sorry Chris and family on tour loss. My sincere condolences to you all.
Chris and Jeremy, this has been a very difficult time for you boys. First losing your brother and now your father. I can’t imagine the sorrow you have been experiencing. Your strength is gained in the memories of both Jason and your dad. Remembering the good times and the times when you shared laughs and happiness together. These are the thoughts that will carry you through these difficult time. Find strength in each other.
Although your dad and I didn’t see much of each other lately, when we did we always shared a laugh or reminisced about the old days working together.
He will be missed.
