It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Eunice, loving mother and devoted wife who went peacefully at Golden West Centennial Lodge. She leaves to mourn her husband of 61 years Bob and sons Bruce and Michael. Eunice was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Harry, as well as her older brother Glen and sister Shirley.

Born in Cloud Bay, an area just outside of Thunder Bay, Eunice had a happy childhood as a tomboy. Later moving to the big city, Winnipeg, she not only landed a job at Manitoba Health but also a future husband. After marriage Bob and Eunice purchased a house in sunny St. James where they would eventually raise two sons. Eunice took a step back from work to stay at home, but as her children grew, she re-entered the workforce at Coopers and Lybrand until her retirement. Whether it being involved in Cubs, CancerCare Manitoba, volunteering at the local school or outreach programs through Sturgeon Creek United Church, Eunice was always giving back to the community. While juggling all this she did manage to curl, bowl and one of her favorite pastimes was her weekly ballet classes with a retired Prima ballerina. In her later years after retirement, Eunice enjoyed a glass of wine, a good book and her loyal dog curled up by her feet, in front of a roaring fire. When this didn’t tickle her fancy, Bob and Eunice would take monthly trips south for shopping and gambling fun.

During her 84 years, the little girl from Cloud Bay managed to live in Canberra, Australia for a year, teach English in Riga, Lativa and traverse Europe with her husband. But her true legacy is as a multiple cancer survivor and person struck down by Parkinson’s, was her ability not only to persevere, but thrive and have a positive outlook during dire times, showing her true grace and dignity.

Per her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

A special thank you to the army of frontline health care workers that kept Eunice in the community as long as they did, and the staff at Golden West for the last few months of her life.
