It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Helen Grierson. She passed away suddenly but peacefully in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 84 years on December 24th, 2020. Predeceased by her husband Andrew Grierson, brothers Eddie Kalinski (Marie) and Norman Konowalchuk (Marusia) and sister Adele Kies as well as her first husband William Prokop.
Eleanor was born in Pansy, Manitoba to John and Mary Kalinski on September 17th, 1936. She was a hard worker from a young age helping on the farm, stating she was a tomboy at heart. She met her best friend, Mary Swereda, as a teenager with whom she had many fun times and they have remained friends throughout all these years.
She achieved her hairstyling diploma while continuing to work in the evenings at Rae & Jerry’s.
Her hobbies included keeping her yard immaculate with a rock garden and beautiful flower beds. Musically inclined, she played the guitar and accordion by ear while she would sing. An avid doll collector and lover of travel, camping and boating. She enjoyed crocheting and petti-point and was a great cook, known for making the very best holupchi and blueberry pierogies. Family dinners were always had at her house as she was the hostess with the mostess. Her only grandchild, Chantel, was a big part of her life and meant the world to her.
Eleanor is survived by her three children, Angela Lamboo (Thomas), Bill Prokop, and Rick Prokop (Denise), her granddaughter Chantel Gerrits (Trevor), her great grandchildren, Dane and Vann Gerrits and Robert Lyall who was like a son to her, along with her Godson Lloyd Swereda. She is also survived by her four step-children, Bob Grierson (Shirley), Marilyn Rhind (Bob), Joanne Ackland (Geoff) and Nancy Occhipinti (Roberto).
We will miss “Baba” greatly and always carry her memory in our hearts. There will be a celebration of her life for family and friends at a later date, when regulations allow.
