December 17, 1933 – November 11, 2020
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Edward Keith Grant on November 11, 2020.
He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He leaves his devoted wife of 60 plus years of marriage Lorna (Cairns); daughters Tracy (Les) Howard; son Todd; and granddaughters Lauren Howard (Mike) and Caitlin (Mikael) Wsiaki. Ted is mourned by his sisters Evelyn Richards and Shirley Wilson; brother (Bev) Marvin; sister- in-law Grace; step brother in-law Robert (Cathy) Olson and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Lawrence and Jim and sister Eileen Maguire.
Ted was born in Miami, MB on December 17, 1933 to George and Jean Grant (deceased). Second to Ted’s love of family was his passion for sports; downhill skiing, hockey and baseball in his younger years and golfing and curling in retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Heather Curling Club and devoted fan of the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Many happy summers were spent trailering with the Winnipeg Nomads trailer club, eventually leading to the purchase of a cabin at beautiful Clear Lake.
Ted had a long career with CIBC in Ontario and Manitoba. Returning in 1993 from Regional office in Winnipeg as the assistant manager of credits for the Manitoba / Saskatchewan region. He was a member of the St. Bartholomew Anglican Church and past member of the St. Vital Rotary and St. Vital Chamber of Commerce.
Ted was a confidant to many and we shall miss his humor and gentle personality. He was the heart of our home.
Donations may be made to Parkinson’s Manitoba or The Alzheimer’s society.
Memorial service will take place at a later date.

So sad! Teddy was my first “Accountant” when I joined CIBC at Polo Park in July 1964. He was welcoming and made me feel a part of the team from the first. Ever the gentleman, encouraging and supportive. One of my early jobs included preparing the weekly balance sheet. At first I thought it was just a cruel joke on the “new guy”. I would say…” Mr. Grant, how the heck is this thing supposed to balance?” His explanation was usually…”well, if you have an apple in this hand, you have to have an apple in the other”.
I wondered what the hell apples had to do with the balance sheet.
I curled out of The Heather for many years as well. We noticed Ted and his crew were usually still at the refreshment stand as we came off the late draw. Apparently they ALWAYS had the late draw. (I hope this isn’t the first time you heard this , Lorna).
The annual Fall Ball was always a highlight of the year. I borrowed from a friend a saying I thought was hilarious. We came up to Ted and Lorna on the dance floor and I said…”Do you like that better than dancing?” A moment or two later they came by and Ted said “You look like a big turkey scratching for food”. Our wives dragged us off the floor. There are many other stories for another time.
Although we haven’t seen the Grants for many years, they were in our memories. Ted was truly one of the good guys.
