Edmond (Ed) Ildege Sabourin

Edmond Ed Ildege Sabourin

1939 – April 2, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Ed Sabourin. At the age of 81, after a long and courageous battle of lung disease and CLL, our loving father and grandpère was called Home to heaven on the momentous day of Good Friday.

His memory is cherished by his beloved wife of 58 years, Murielle (Dupuis), daughter, Joanne (David) Plamondon, sons, Darrell (Annette), Serge, son-in-law Martin Ramsaurer; his grandchildren, Jean-Eric (Sydney) Plamondon, Janelle (Robert) Plamondon, Geneviève Sabourin, Morgan and Reed Bingham, Jordan and Peyten Sabourin, Léa Ramsaurer and three great-grandchildren, Cruz Plamondon, William and Raven Marion.
He is survived by his siblings, Beth (René), Syl (Kathy), Henri (Kim), Claire, Louise (Gilbert); numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Ed was predeceased by his daughter Christiane, his parents, Armand and Hortense, his brother Claude, and sister Léa.
Ed retired as a foreman in the paint department for the Winnipeg School Division #1 for 30 years. He was recognized as a dedicated painter in St. Norbert and Buffalo Point, MB. His passion in life was spending time with his family and grandchildren camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, and hanging out at the cottage.

From a young age, Ed was an avid reader and became quite the storyteller. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone with his endless treasury of stories.

The grandchildren will forever remember the precious stories “Pépère” would proudly share of their childhood accomplishments. Ed loved meeting people wherever he went, especially while spending their winters down south or during their international travels. He will be missed by many!

Ed was very appreciative of all the caring support he received from his family and caregivers. A special thanks to Dr. Johnston and the Oncology team, his Respirologists Dr. Homik and Dr. McKinnon.

In honour of Ed, you may donate to your charity of choice.

A private family only service will be held on Saturday April 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm. A live stream of this service may be viewed at Voyage Funeral Homes YouTube channel here.

  3. It was with sadness that we learned of Edmond’s passing . Reflecting back on our early childhood years we have so many good memories spent at Auntie Hortense and Uncle Armand’s farm and all the fun times we shared with our cousins , frequently led by Edmond and Syl ( siphoning the wine for Beths upcoming wedding, stone boat rides, jumping into piles of hay or buckwheat, and getting to witness first hand the dedication and hard work of family farm life. ) our sincere condolences to Muriel and all of Edmond’s family for your loss.
With love and fond memories from (Uncle Hector and Anne’s family ) Diane, Susan , Don , Patty, David and their families,

  4. Merci, Murielle et ta famille for giving us an opportunity to morn and say goodbye to Big Ed. I bare witness to Ed’s character and generous nature from his family’s testimony. Today I want to reminisce through my eyes, a 6 to 14 year old (1952 – 1960). One year using wooden orange and apple boxes he built and painted every farm building including wooden machinery, we spent days playing in a huge sand pile. He built many igloos and wooden rafts for spring thaw. Firstly Ed was an avid reader, in our country school, Grade 1 – 8 with one teacher, the back wall was covered with shelving full of library books. Ed read every book and begin fine tuning his story telling, we would gather around, he would tell us stories about what he read. No doubt, he embellished them by keeping us captive for hours. The next year he went to college to Grade 9, he literally skipped Grade 8. There he furthered his passion and received teaching in sketching, oil painting and carving. He could sketch a portrait in minutes, with photo quality. He painted sceneries with precise isometric and carved many figurines. He also became an avid hockey player. His title changed from Big Ed to E (Elvis) when he first got off the bus with a Guitar Case on his back and a different hair do. He actually looked and sounded like him, including hair. He showed us how to do the Elvis lip curl, left and right no doubt. Through the years he was a very successful entrepreneur in contract painting, he gave me many financial opportunities and was a great teacher to Syl and I. I have spent my life enjoying, passing on those skills, thanks Ed “E”. As younger brothers we always had plenty to aspire to, being so self disciplined and hard working, at times it seemed difficult to match up. That self discipline and hard work, made it difficult for you to let go, we understand that, take your leave and know you live on through all the ones you touched. Henri

  5. Mon oncle Edmond reminded me of pepere Sabourin. Loving, family oriented hard working man. He loved to tell me stories and make me laugh. I remember running from the beach to the cottage and he was there and oh oh I just had to pee and was too shy to tell him that so I sat and listened to his long stories even with a full bladder. He always loved to reminisce about the old times when dad and him were younger. He did love that I ran a hotel and that’s what he always wanted to talk about when we would see each other the last 15 years. How is the hotel business? He did tell me he was proud of me and said I knew you would be successful. He loved to give compliments as a child he told me always I was like chris and Chan was like Joanne. I’m not even sure the reasons it’s just something he always mentioned. Lol he always made me laugh I feel very fortunate to have had an uncle who is so loveable. Your grandkids are so lucky mon oncle to have known you. Matante Murielle – the love that you two shared is unbelievable you are both so blessed to have found each other. Joanne – Darryl – Serge and Chris in heaven love you my cousins it’s hard to lose a parent as healing process begins. He is at peace and with his loved ones in heaven. Love sherrie ❤️

  6. It is so sad to lose our cousin, our family was always so close to yours…and I remember so clearly when your first kids came along, and how beautiful they were. Murielle and Edmond always looked like movie stars to me…and it was so nice to connect whenever there was an occasion. I’m sure he was greeted with so much love in heaven, but the hearts bleed here on earth, your beautiful wife, your children, grandkids, brothers and sisters…all of us cousins who loved you!

  7. By the way, watching the funeral service and the slide show really showcased the great love he had for you Murielle, and for his children and grandchildren. He led a good and loving life and he touched so many! Seeing him with all his loved ones and hearing how he bestowed his talents, his compassion and his love was beautiful. Thank you again for sharing, big hugs to you all!
    🥲❤️❤️❤️❤️
