Don Donnie Craig Briscoe

October 11, 1953 – October 16, 2024

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Don (Donnie) Craig Briscoe in the evening on October 16 2024 at the Concordia Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with Cancer. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his family and loved ones. Donnie was pre-deceased by his parents John and Mary Briscoe, older brother Cameron and son-in-law Cesar.

Don was born on October 11 1953 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the Misericordia hospital. Don had a full life. He attended Gladstone and Earl Grey school, and then later Kelvin High School where he graduated in 1971. He was a gifted baseball player from his youth into his early adult years.

Donnie loved sports of all kinds and was an avid golfer – he loved playing and watching all sports, travelling and visiting friends across the globe, and attending sporting events with his family members.

He attended Red River College after high school and obtained a Business Administration degree. He thereafter worked at TD Bank. He then went on to be a member of the Winnipeg Police Department and had a respected career of 30 years. He was promoted throughout his career to Sergeant and later still to Staff-Sergeant. Don was the recipient of the Police Exemplary Service Medal on February 29 1996 and was a member of the WPS from December 16 1975 to January 21 2006.

After retiring from the police force, he worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Maples collegiate and other schools within Seven Oaks School Division – he enjoyed his time working with youth.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation to all medical staff and health care professionals who provided compassionate care to him in his time of need.

A private family interment will take place at a future date following his cremation.

I so enjoyed my July 1st chats with Don. He was always willing to go on a Sarles road trip when the ball got rained out.

You will be missed my friend. Cheers !!

My deepest condolences to the family 💙💙💙

  2. To the family,
Our sincere condolences. Though we’ve never met any of you, it’s always been a desire of ours to know who we’re genetically connected to. Aunt Maureen let us know about Don’s passing. {Lilian (John’s sister) was my Great Grandma, Tom (her son) was Darlene’s (my Mom) father.} The obituary paints a clear picture of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Brittany, Darlene (Mike) and Timothy

  3. We have been friends with Don and Sandy for over 30 years. Hugs to his children Curtis (Jennifer), Jason (Sheri) and Kara & grandchildren Tommy, Allie, Findley and Luna in this time of the passing of their father and grandfather. Hugs to his wife Sandra who share well over forty years together. Time stands still for none.

  4. To Don’s (Mr. B’s) Family,

I was one of the teachers who was lucky enough to work with your Dad (Mr.B) at Maples. Each day I could count on him for great conversation and a commitment to young people. He had a way of making some really special kids shine even brighter. Funny, I knew he was a retired police officer, yet had no idea of his immense accomplishments. I think that speaks to the person he was, someone who regularly chatted about his own amazing children, the great kids we got to work with, and never the incredible human he was.

    My deepest condolences,
    Amy Carpenter
