August 7, 1943 – May 5, 2023
Dennis went peacefully to rest with his Heavenly Father on Friday May 5, 2023 at the age of 79.
Dennis was born on August 7, 1943 in Woodstock Ontario. He was the youngest of 6 children born to Irene and John Hall. After graduation Dennis went on to study Engineering in university and worked in pharmaceuticals as a quality control specialist. After meeting his future wife, Thea, he felt called to become a minister and began his career in London, Ontario. His first pastorate was in the tiny Saskatchewan community of North Portal where he moved his young family. Oh the adventures he had there! He went on to Oxbow, SK where he completed his family and pastored for 9 years. In the early 1980s, he moved to Winnipeg and continued his ministry there until moving to Weyburn, SK in 1992. He headed back to Manitoba in 2003 and pastored in various places until 2021.
In addition to his ministry, he was also an incredible carpenter, he loved to golf, he loved to write poetry and short stories and was always up for a game of Crib. He was a wonderful listener and was always willing to lend a helping hand to all he met.
His love for people drew him to his very large dwelling near Hadashville, MB where he and his wife lived and opened a bed & breakfast. His other love for golfing prompted him to create a three hole golf course for any of his guests, but probably mostly for himself and anyone he could get to join him. After leaving Hadashville, they moved to Paradise Village in hopes of retiring, but continued on with pastoring here and there. His final move was to Winnipeg and to live with his eldest daughter, Anna, where Thea continues to reside.
Dennis was predeceased by his father John, mother Irene, sister Pauline (Bob), brother Keith, and sisters in law Rhoda and Sheila. Dennis is survived by his wife Theodora, children Anna (Brian), Rebecca (Brent), Darius (Tanya) and Miriam (Gary); grandchildren Andrew, Leah, Marcus, Jazmyn, Tayler, Amarissa and Davienn; great grandchildren Alexandria, Daxon, Lexis, Bennedict and Brixlee; brothers Douglas, Del, Dick (Janet) and numerous nieces & nephews and their families.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family. He loved playing games and telling jokes and anything that included getting together for big feasts (desserts first of course!) He will be missed by all those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 12 at 1:30 in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 472 Kirkfield Street, Winnipeg.
