Darlene Watcher-Martin

Darlene Watcher Martin

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother Darlene Watcher-Martin. With her husband and her children by her side, she passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 17, 2021.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Victor; children Derrick (Kristen), Ashley (Brett), Kimberly (Andrew) and Ryan (Kendal); her mother Shirley; siblings Kathy, Tommy, Rosie, Billy and Stanley and grandson Maverick along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. We find comfort in knowing she is now with her father William and previously passed relatives.

Darlene married her high-school sweetheart, her husband of 33 years. They had four beautiful children whom she loved very much. She was a new grandmother to her grandson Maverick who always brought a smile to her face and was thrilled to hear there are more on the way. Darlene was an avid dog lover. She cared for many dogs throughout her life, she loved and spoiled them all. Darlene didn’t waste an opportunity to escape to her cottage (her Mexican oasis), where she spent most of her time tending to her numerous plants, flowers and garden, as well as relaxing in the company of friends and family.

Darlene enjoyed her career as an Educational Assistant with the Seven Oaks school division. Inspiring, motivating and being a positive impact on the lives of so many kids was her passion.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Sinclair Park community centre, 490 Sinclair Street. The family requests that you RSVP if you are attending due to limited space. To RSVP you can text or call Victor at (204) 470-7314 or Kimberly (204) 396-6495.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

    1. Darlene was the most genuine and caring person I have ever known. She walked the walk and talked the talk. After her illness started she told me she just wanted to get back to school. She loved working with the students and always wanted the beat outcome for each one of them. She lived for her children and husband and never said no to anyone in need. I was so very proud and fortunate to know her for 24 years. Rest in peace dear friend…you will be missed.

  5. My sympathies to your family. Having worked in the school where all the Martin kids went, I saw Darlene frequently. She spent many hours at the school volunteering her time with the parent council. She only knew one speed – full speed. Rest In Peace Darlene. You’ll be missed by your family and the many friends you made working at the school division.

  6. So sorry to hear the news of Darlene’s passing. I was at Finney when Darlene was there. She liked to get to know kids she didn’t work directly with. She would get out and play with kids in any weather. I remember those freezing indoor recess days when she would round up a group and take them for a couple of laps around the school just to get out and get some fresh air. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

  7. So sad and sorry to hear of Darlene’s passing. Thinking of you all, her family and close friends. I hope you will find some console with memories of her and live on in your hearts 💕

  8. So sorry to hear the news of Darlene’s passing. I remember the camping weekends we had at McArthur falls and how much you enjoyed camping and getting away for the weekends and the roaring fires. You would always say to me how’s it going Marino. Rest In Peace Dar. You will be missed by your family and all the friends you have met along the way.

  9. I had the pleasure of working with Darlene from the time she was new to Seven Oaks. Her “joie de vivre” was amazing! At recess she was right in there with the students, playing tag and inspiring them to be kind to one another. As a friend she was always the life of the party! She kept our group together by organizing after school “Educator’s club” every Friday, sending us messages where to meet. We shared many “girl’s weekends” together and Darlene always made sure a good time was had by all. She had us all convinced there was a bear lurking in the woods outside our cabin on one of our weekends. She made sure we were well armed on our trips to the outhouse that night! In the morning we discovered that it was actually a deer! Darlene was one of the kindest people I have had the pleasure of knowing. Anytime anyone needed a favour, she was there to give a helping hand no matter what it meant. She certainly lifted my spirits on many occasions with flowers, gift baskets, an kind word or an amusing book she made. I will miss you Dar and your one-line, run-on sentence texts that would arrive often in the wee hours of the night. You may be gone, but your light will shine in all who knew you. xoxo my friend, “Frenchie” (thanks for that nick name) You made the world a better place.

  10. So very sorry to hear of Darlene’s passing. I worked on the Finney, Forest Park and West St.Paul School staff with Darlene. She always had a warm, friendly smile for everyone and the greatest chuckle. Although she did not work in my classrooms, you could always see her working closely with her students or enjoying her recesses playing with the kids. We shared a common love for traveling to Mexico and shared many fond memories of our trips down south whenever we had a chance to enjoy a conversation. I always enjoyed getting the current countdown, right to the second, to spring break! Rest easy now in paradise Darlene. My deepest condolences to all the family.💗💗💗

  11. Val & Lorne Harman

Our condolences to all the family. Darlene was always the life of any party that Lorne & I attended. She had such a strength of character that I always admired. My husband Lorne always asked for a hug and she always replied no way. That is until last summer during our last visit with her that she said that it was finally time for a hug. Lorne is very grateful for that moment. We will miss Darlene, her beauty of spirit and her zest for life will remain with us. Til we meet again Darlene.

  12. I got to know Dar at Finney. She was the school firecracker. If you ever needed anything, she’d be right there for you. Wether it be at school or at home. She had a heart of gold and beautiful soul. She was full of life with the kids. We had many great times at Ed club. My condolences to dar’s family.

  14. Darlene was an amazing educational assistant who would go above and beyond. I’m glad to have had her as an educational assistant in my grade 4 and 5 years at Constable Finny. Darlene would play tag with us before school started and at recess every day. Darlene would also bring us her own beef jurkey (which tasted amazing) that she seasoned her self. Darelene would talk about her cabin in Lac Du Bonne and her travels to the states. Darlene was closer with me then the teachers. Darlene is someone who I trusted when I needed someone to talk to at school. Even though I haven’t seen Darlene in years, every time I think back to my years in elementary Darlene is one of the first persons I think of. I wish I could have visited Darlene once more sooner before her passing. Darlene truly made a positive impact on the students she worked with.

  15. Aunty dar (aunty bug) you will truly be missed. Always an open invitation to visit. You gave Jacob his nickname too too. Many pool days and visits to the cabin. I always enjoyed our conversations about Traveling in Mexico and how you enjoyed Puerto Vallarta.

  16. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of Darlene’s family! We started our careers as EA,s together and soon ended up at different schools but Darlene always made sure too be friendly whenever our paths crossed. She was a wonderful person that will be missed by all.

  17. I first met Darlene at Finney school and knew immediately that we were going to hit it off! She was always there to lend a hand when needed and never failed to bring a smile to my day, even now when I reminisce. So many wonderful memories. We were part of the original “Fab 5” and held regular group meetings after school hours. On several occasions we would leave town and enjoy weekends at coworkers cottages. So much fun and always filled with great conversation and much laughter. My condolences to Darlene’s family. Her spirit will live on ❤️.

  18. My/our condolences to Victor and his family. Darlene will be always be in our hearts. Dar was our favorite while attending to the
Wednesday night crew while bowling at the club. We all will miss her deeply.

I’m sure she is looking down and is looking forward to help cheer on the grandkids in whatever challenge they take on. My thoughts are with you!
