It is with tremendous sorrow and very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our amazing son and brother, Danny Penner, at the age of 20.
Danny leaves to mourn, his mother Angela Booth Penner; his father Peter Penner; his sister Amy Penner; his grandparents Edward and Lena Penner and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and our cat Lucky. He was predeceased by his Baba, Grandpa, uncle Don, uncle Raymond, uncle Paul and uncle Irvin.
Danny was a kind, gentle soul who liked hanging out with his friends and family. Going for bike rides and skateboarding, going for walks with his mom and Amy. He liked nature and thought that late spring and early summer were the best time of the year with new leaves starting on the trees and flowers blooming. He loved animals and enjoyed the birds that would come to the rose bushes in our yard. He loved video games, cars and Lego. He had a great collection of Lego that he put together and had on shelves in his room. He enjoyed trying new foods and loved cooking, his favourite things to make were rull kuchen and lumpia. He was very creative and liked to do woodworking, especially using the lathe, where he made bowls and pens. He also enjoyed drawing, embroidery and making model houses out of popsicle sticks. He enjoyed spending time out at The Narrows, working with his dad on the lot and driving the ATV, visiting with people and sitting around the fire talking and laughing.
He was a quiet guy for the most part till you got to know him then you would find that he was quite outgoing and had a great sense of humour with a dry wit that could always amuse. He was very hard-working and put his heart into helping when he had the chance. When he was able to work, he liked doing drywalling with his uncle Russell and cousins, Jay and Chris. He attended Lord Nelson Elementary School and had many good memories of the parent centre and his friends and teachers. We spent many hours there in the schoolyard, playing and walking around. He attended Andrew Mynarski Junior High for grades 7 to 9. His best memories were of the friends he hung out with there. He attended Sisler High School for grade 10 and always said that it was his best year ever. He played football and took woodworking and drafting and of course spent as much time as possible hanging out with his friends.
He was a well-traveled young man, who visited with family in Belize and Mexico, and went along with his dad in the big truck all over Canada and the US when he was young.
During the last year and a half of his life, he struggled with both physical health problems and mental health, so he withdrew from a lot of the former activities in his life and was very sad that he wasn’t able to do the things he enjoyed anymore. During this time, he expressed great regret that he wasn’t able to spend more time with his friends and family.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for all that they did for him. He felt cared for and supported by all of you.
A memorial service is being held on Thursday, September 5, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Hwy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal shelter of your choice or in the spring take a moment to plant a tree or sunflowers in his memory.
