Daniel Justin Mager 1 e1564780386556

July 19, 1964 – July 29, 2019

Daniel Justin Mager was born on July 19,1964 and lost his fight with pancreatic cancer on July 29, 2019.

He was predeceased by father Joe and mother Georgie; sister Arlene; brother-in-law Tom Sr.; nephew Tom Jr.; as well as Pepere Marcel; Memere Anita and cousin Tyler (Sebastien).

Survived by his wife Shelley; stepson Dominic; brothers-in-law Marc (Tanya) and Shawn (Mel); nephew Griffin; mother-in-law Jackie; father-in-law Dennis; several aunts, uncles, cousins and second cousins, twin brother Ted (Sjoerd); Michael, Roland (Debbie), John (Richard) and Henry along with nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. Daniel also had 3 children, Justin, Brynn, and Josh along with grandchildren whom he had lost contact with over the years.

You could always tell when Daniel was in a room or building as he was always very loud and his laugh was very infectious. He could always brighten up a room and make you laugh when you were sad, gave you a big hug and told you everything would be ok and he meant it. Daniel was a very loyal, loving, honest and giving person. He was always there for you to lend a hand no matter what. He would drop what he was doing and come over to help you. Daniel loved his football, Dallas Cowboys, and unfortunately he was also an Islanders fan. He never would’ve thought in a million years that he would’ve spent the last 19 1/2 years with Shelley, an Eagles fan. He loved going to movies and hanging out with his friends Tim, Shawn, Sarah and Johnny. Daniel loved playing games and was very competitive. He loved playing with Griffin, Nicholas and Alex and his favourite thing to do was to cuddle up on the couch and read to them. Daniel loved going camping and fishing with family and friends. Daniel and Shelley went camping and fishing almost every year for the past 14 years with Aunty Rachel and Uncle Chip and their 2 dogs Stitch and Christian. Daniel also loved cooking and baking and he made the best cinnamon buns and cheesecake, and the best pie crust ever, a recipe that his mother had passed onto him.

Daniel will be greatly missed by all. The Costco on Kenaston will be way too quiet now in the mornings, and so will his home. We were all blessed to have Daniel in our lives.

There will be a celebration of life held for Daniel on Monday August 5,
from 1-4 p.m., in the common room at 41 Clayton Drive.

  1. Thank you Daniel for the privilege and honour to be your friend, if even only for a short period. After reading the lovely story here, it was exactly how I figured. Your laugh, your smile you loudness, your energy, Daniel just being Daniel. I celebrated my birthday yesterday, 2 short weeks after yours. I kept my promise to you and with the help of Bouncy Bouncy Tigger, I made it thru without a scratch. Daniel thank you for sharing those incredible hugs and most importantly those smiles, even at the most challenging time.
    Peace perfect Peace Daniel

To Ted and the Mager Family,

How sad I was to learn of Daniel’s death. I wish you peace and comfort. May all your wonderful memories ease your sadness and loss of your loved one.
My memories of Daniel go back many years to the 1970″s at CTK and Grade 4. Even then Daniel displayed a number of the great qualities written about in his obituary. I would have enjoyed meeting the adult version of Daniel.

    With sympathy and sincerity,
    Fondest regards,
    Geraldine Dring (nee Taylor)
Grade 4 teacher and neighbor from your Nichol Avenue days.

    1. Hi Mrs Dring (Miss Taylor).
We had you in both grade 4 & 6 I believe.

Thank you for your kind words. I never knew this website existed. I was just googling names.

All good here. I lived in Amsterdam and London for 30 years. Retired in 2021 and moved back to Vancouver and just bought a home with my husband in Palm Springs to winter in.

I’ve been blessed with an amazing life and adventures too many to summarise.

      Wishing you well.
      Ted.

      1. Ted, this is Collette Hebert from back home. I’ve tried to locate you with no success. I read up on my Daniel’s passing last fall. I had sent him a mssg back in Aug 2019 not realizing why I hadn’t received a reply back. My heart feels for your loss Ted. I’ve been in contact with Michael sending my sympathies even if it was a tad late, as well as Danielle’s wife. Again I’m sorry to hear. Always holding fond memories of you all. You were my extended family. Sending hugs, Collette 204 880-1043
