Carole Vivier

March 8, 1951 – March 4, 2025

Carole Vivier, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, after a courageous and prolonged battle with lung cancer.

Born on March 8, 1951, Carole lived a life full of love, kindness, and resilience. Over the years she become known for her unwavering strength, warm heart, and deep dedication to her family. Her positivity and grace in the face of adversity inspired all who knew her.

Carole was married to Rick Vivier for 54 wonderful years. Together they built a life full of love, joy and shared memories. Carole is survived by her loving husband Rick, as well as her two daughters, Danielle Loundsbury (married to Colin Loundsbury) and Brandice Vivier (married to Rob Burns), and a son Michael Jurkow.

Carole’s legacy continues through her four granddaughters: Ali Puumala, Gabby Vivier-Hannay, and Aubrey Burns and Ella Burns, who brought immense joy to her life. Her great-grandchildren, William, Jack, Carson, and Emily Puumala will carry forward the love and lessons she shared with them. Carole also leaves behind four sisters, who shared in her love and support throughout the years.

In recognition of her exceptional contributions to the community, Carole was honored with the Order of Manitoba and the Order of Canada. These prestigious awards reflected her tireless dedication to making the world a better place, whether through her volunteer work, leadership, or quiet acts of kindness that left a lasting impact on those around her.

Carole’s warm smile, boundless love, and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a woman of incredible strength, grace, and integrity, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Carole’s memory to the Palliative Care unit at Riverview and Cancer Care Manitoba. The support we received from Cancer Care Manitoba, and Dr. Banerji in particular, was outstanding, and the compassion and kindness which the staff at Riverview demonstrated everyday was a gift.

A celebration of Carole’s life where family and friends can gather to remember and honor her remarkable life will be announced later this spring.

  1. The Sodec (Québec) team learned with deep sadness the passing of Carole Vivier, a visionnary, strong and inspiring woman who dedicated 30 years of her life in a career to support the culture industry in Manitoba.

She will be remembered as a devoted leader, team worker, who contributed greatly to the Canadian film and music industry.

We unite in offering our condolences to her colleagues, her friends and family. Our thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time.

  2. I met Carole 3 years ago through a friend when I was diagnosed with cancer. She helped me so much when I was reeling with my diagnosis, and gave me so much hope and inspiration, which helped me navigate my own situation. We stayed in touch and she remained a solid friend from afar. I’m so sorry she was taken from us. I know a share this sense of profound loss with many of you, but her spirit certainly lives on, and continues to inspire me, and I”m sure many others whose lives she touched with her generosity and vitality.

  3. I met Carole in the mid 1990s when I began covering the local film and TV business for the Winnipeg Sun. She was so generous with her support, honest in her feedback and encouraging. It was a further honour to get to know her a little socially. To have witnessed her courage in the professional and cancer worlds and to have known her smile, wit and zest for life and community was a great privilege. My condolences to the many people who know and will miss her.

  4. Brandice, Rob and family. We are so sad to hear of your Mom’s passing, she was such a lovely woman. Sending love and prayers.

  5. I met Carole through my work with the JUNOS – going back to 2005.
Im very sorry to hear of her passing and wanted to share my condolences – and my sadness.
Carole was a lovely person and (from this outsiders perspective) a foundational piece of Winnipeg’s thriving and inspiring arts/film/music community.
She will be missed greatly and I was thankful to have worked with her in a small capacity.
My thoughts are with her family, friends and community.

  6. I was saddened to hear about the passing of Carole. She raised an incredible family and was the family matriarch. I babysat her two daughters occasionally during my younger teens. Carole and her family lived on Rutland Street, just a few houses from mine. I am still the best of friends with her two younger sisters, Judi and Pam; I have known them since grade two. We were “The Rutland Girls.” Being little rebels, we often went to Carole for her motherly advice and wisdom. Carole carried on her mother’s legacy, Henrietta (Henny) White. Henny was always there for her family; her wisdom was beyond words, and she instilled many of her matriarchal traits in Carole. Henny was so proud of Carole’s family and her many accomplishments. Carole was the brains and force behind Manitoba Film & Music. I remember Carole and her husband, Ricky, when they first met. Ricky was a rock star in Winnipeg’s Red Ryder band. They were the cutest couple. Carole’s legacy will live on through her children and generations to come. Sending love and strength to Carole’s family. She will be missed by many.
