May 7, 1939 – July 7, 2019
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our mom, Carol, after losing her battle to cancer, at the Seven Oaks Hospital, early Sunday morning, on July 7, 2019. Mom went peacefully, with her daughters Kim & Debbie and niece Debbie by her side. After having numerous family and friends dropping in to pay their last respects, day and night, during the week, praying and hoping for a miraculous healing, mom went to be with the Lord at 8:35 am.
Carol’s family are left to treasure memories of her love and devotion. Her dedicated husband and companion of 8 years, Van Kruse; daughters, Kim (Brian) Ellison and Cheryl (Jim) Levesque; grandchildren, Tamara (Ryan) & Tyler (Carly); Troyenne (Shaun) & Layla. Great grandsons whom she adored Holden & Wyatt. Also one sister Norinne Goulet; In-laws Peter (Bonnie), Sue (David), Terry (Loraine) and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. And her very best friend of 68 years, Betty Brazil.
Also dearly missing Mom are her chosen Kruse family, stepchildren Garry (Sheryl); Ben (Jen); Dale (Tawnia); Kevin (Kim); Debbie (Dennis); Van (Davara) and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Carol was predeceased by Dennis Wilson, her loyal first husband of 50 years; son Dennis Wilson Jr.; her parents, Dave & Gladys Mailey; Sisters Joan, Merilyn, Sandra; brothers Dave & Dale, in-laws, and many other relatives.
We are so happy that Mom found love not once, but twice in her lifetime. Dad provided well for his family, and she didn’t have to go out to work, he wanted her to be home for us. Mom committed her entire life to taking care of her 3 children; Kim, Dennis and Cheryl. We knew every time we came home from school, or some other event, that Mom would be there waiting for us. She was our cheerleader and support. Mom was a dedicated wife, taking care of our home, and making sure everyone was well fed. We were so blessed to have her there for us. Mom’s affection for babies was restored when she welcomed her 4 grandchildren into the world. She was so excited, and every occasion was met with gifts of love. Mom survived cancer in 2002, and dad took care of her through this ordeal. When Dad passed away in 2008, Mom was heartbroken and lost and had to learn to take care of herself. We did our best to stand by her, and help her through her grief….that is when love returned to her.
Mom found love a second time with Van, who was recently widowed, and whom she and dad knew for years. Mom & Van welcomed her two great-grandsons into the world, and she was blessed with more than these 2 babies! This new family that she married into, brought her at least a dozen more children to adore. Mom’s heart was full, and we were so happy for them both. We are also grateful for Van, who stood beside her through the last 5 years of sickness, and cancer. We couldn’t have gotten through this last year without each other.
We would like to thank the WRHA homecare workers from the Garden City and River East offices, particularly Johanna, for the time they spent in caring for Mom. Also, the nurses at the Seven Oaks Hospital, especially Angel, who took extra care of us when we spent 6 nights in the hospital to be by mom’s side.
We would also like to thank all the family members and friends who visited Mom in the last 11 days of her life at Seven Oaks. Especially those who never left her side, night and day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care or the charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Voyage Funeral Home, 472 Kirkfield Street, Winnipeg, MB. Pastor Duane Siemens officiating. Cremation has taken place, and a family burial service will be held at a later date.
