Bridgette Elsa Scheppner (nee Jahnke)

Bridgette Elsa Scheppner nee Jahnke
December 9, 1948 – December 24, 2024

With heavy hearts, her family announces the passing of our mother, Oma, aunt and great friend on December 24, 2024.  She was predeceased by her husband, Seigfried Scheppner, parents Chealous and Herta, in-laws Albert and Clara, brother Hintz Jahnke and grandson Bauer Scheppner.  She will be sadly missed by daughters Mary (Kelly), and Rosalie and son Ronny (Amanda), grandsons Timothy and Otter, brother Kurt, niece Erica, best friend of 55 years Marlene and her many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Mom was born on a farm outside of Düsseldorf, Germany on December 9, 1948.  She settled with her parents and brothers in 1952 to Emerson, MB.  She started school and spoke no English but she quickly picked up the language.   Mom moved back and forth between Ontario and Manitoba for many years with her mother before settling  in Winnipeg in the 1960s.  Mom met and married Siegie in 1971 and settled in North KIldonan, where they raised their children.   She was very excited to become an Oma in 1994 with the birth of Timothy and then again over 20 years later, welcoming Otter.   She took great pride in watching Tim play football and then transition to coaching, was very excited when Otter started playing football as well and loved to cheer him on at his baseball games.  Mom was very happy to be able to reconnect with her daughter Mary in 2010. Mom loved spending time outdoors, and many great memories were made on her brother-in-laws farm when the kids where younger.    These included whipping around in the old seringeti car with the roof cut off, bonfires, fishing and hunting,

Mom worked for many years at McDonald’s before transitioning to working in child care.  This is where she met good friends, Nellie and Cheryl, whom she had a great many adventures in and around Manitoba with.  One of Mom’s greatest’s loves was Elvis, and one of the biggest highlights of her retirement was traveling with Marlene to Memphis by bus and visiting Graceland.   Mom was a great football fan and loved to watch and yell at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and would really enjoy attending the occasional game with family, she passed her love of the game onto all of her children and grandchildren.  Mom loved to watch wrestling and passed that love onto son Ronny and grandson Tim.  They would always get together for Pay-per-views and Mom would loudly cheer on her favourites.  Everyone would laugh at Mom’s very dramatic showing of who her favourite and least favourite wrestlers were.  Mom was an avid reader, loved to garden and craft, she made many beautiful keep sakes over the years.   Mom loved animals and had many cats as her companion over the years, her son’s dogs always knew that Oma had treats and cuddles for them when she came over for a visit.  Rose and Mom would get together every week to go shopping and take in the sights, especially when they would visit Rainbow Stage and Folklarama every year.

The family would like to thank they staff at Middlechurch Personal Care home for the amazing care they took of Mom in her last months.

The funeral will be held at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 1:00 pm, with a small reception to follow.  A private family interment will take place at a later date.

  1. Mary & Family,

We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. She was such a special person, and her warmth, humour, and love touched everyone around her. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts during this difficult time.

  2. My heart goes out to you all. In the few interactions I had with your beloved mom, I was moved by her warm and welcoming nature. I loved bearing witness to the beautiful connection and intentional time well spent between Rose and her mom. It’s a reminder to me to cherish each moment with our loved ones. May she rest peacefully in the arms of her maker, may she rejoice in the reuniting with her beloved husband, and may you all find comfort in knowing you loved her well and her life was blessed because of each and every one of you.

  3. My daughter was cared for by Brigette at school day care. She fell in love with our kid as she had the same birthday as Elvis. They bonded right away. We even gave her an Elvis ornament. She was always full of joy and hugs when we saw her. Her care left us with no worries. She will be in our hearts forever. Bless you.

    The Delorme-Hamilton family.
