On Saturday, August 21 2021, Blaine Leo Van Achte peacefully passed away in the arms of his loving wife and sons at the Health Science Center at the age of 61.

Blaine was born October 10, 1959 in Treherne, Manitoba to Lorne and Gail (Magnusson) Van Achte. He graduated from Sturgeon Creek Regional Secondary School in 1978 before setting his career path in Information Technology. On September 19, 1992, he married the love of his life Sharon, who were happily married for 28 strong years.

Blaine (Parch) was involved in sports his whole life, from playing baseball, bowling, curling to golf and hockey. Once his two boys started to play sports he was actively involved with their teams as a coach, assistant, or a fan cheering them on from the sidelines.

Blaine is survived by his wife Sharon; sons Gregory and Bradley; parents-in-law Robert and Arleigh Pollitt; his brothers Kelly (Annette) and Scott; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Lorne and Gail Van Achte, and his sister-in-law Kim Van Achte.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 472 Kirkfield Street at McBey Ave. As per Blaine’s wishes cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest at Bethel Cemetery near Treherne with his parents and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St Boniface Hospital Foundation – Cardiac Care or Cancer Care Manitoba in honour of Blaine Van Achte.

  4. We will fondly remember Blaine. Doug and I (Susan Fidler-Elson)(Calgary) remember a couple of ski trips we did to Sunshine in Banff, camping in Manitoba – remember his decked out “70s van – lol. How about the apartment that he shared just over by Unicity – best stereo ever!! Or the root beer schnapps he enjoyed from time to time (that goes way back 🙂 We all had a great time together and I will hold these memories so close. Blaine was such a nice, and fun person, and I know how much he will be missed. We hope your memories will hold you and keep you and may you find comfort in knowing how many lives Blaine touched over his lifetime.

    1. I’m very sorry to hear about Blaine’s passing. Lots of good memories with Blaine in school and then watching the boys at all the different curling clubs. Blaine would see me and have some smart ass comment and then we would stand there and laugh just like we did in school.

  5. Blaine was my son’s 1st curling coach and the parents of those curlers became good friends, lots of hotel weekends and diners on the road and some summer fun golfing and backyard BBQ’s…..to Sharon,Greg and Brad, God bless…

  6. It is so incredibly heartbreaking to hear of this loss. My heart is hurting for Sharon, Greg, and Bradley. Blaine was always so kind and always quick to make people laugh. My sincerest condolences to all of his loved ones… A great man gone far too soon.

  7. So sad for your loss. As Blaine was battling his health issues Sharon was always there for him. Sharon came to work during the difficult times and somehow was able to hold herself together.   8. We are so sorry we can’t be there with you all at this time. We are so happy we were able to come out there one month ago to see you all and see Blaine, it meant the world to us to see him.
