June 12, 1942 – June 4, 2019

 

After a brief battle with cancer Bert passed away peacefully on June 4 at the St. Boniface Hospital with family by his side.

He will be forever remembered by his wife of 54 years Maureen; daughter Mandy (Derek) Wolfe; son Jeffrey; grandsons Nolan and Zachary Wolfe; brother Mel; and niece Anna Christina of Toronto; as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Hartwig and Maret Carlson; and in-laws Pearl and Bill McDowell.

Bert was born in Renfrew, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg with his family six months later. After high school, he worked as an auto mechanic until 1962 when he entered the electrical apprenticeship program through Schumacher McKenzie. After working in the electrical trade for many years he worked in the furniture manufacturing business and in 1991 he dusted off his tool belt, moved to the family cottage at Falcon Lake and started Cottage Country Electric. In 2003 he sold the business and retired.

In December 1963, Bert met the love of his life, Maureen McDowell, and after a whirlwind romance became engaged a few months later. They married in June 1965.

Once retired, Bert and Maureen RV’d for many years with their family dogs and saw most of the U.S. and a good portion of Mexico. Finally setting in Mesa, AZ for a number of years.

In 2008, Bert went to work on various construction sites for JKW Construction and in 2014 became Camp Manager at their newly purchased campground in Emerson. Bert loved this job and took great pride in getting it up and running.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service. A Celebration of Life will be held in July at Falcon Lake.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the South East Whiteshell Fire Department, Box 87, West Hawk Lake, R0E 2H0, or to a charity of one’s choice.
