It is with sadness that we announce the death of Barbara Anne Wood (nee McArthur) on November 11, 2023. Barbara was born in 1928 in Duluth Minnesota but lived most of her life in Winnipeg. She was a strong willed, determined and independent thinking woman; one of the first female bank managers (Royal Bank) in Western Canada. Following the early death of her husband Wilfred (Bud) Wood in 1964 she raised her sons, single parenting while also forging a career in the banking world.
Barbara loved to travel, listen to good music, golf and indulge in the occasional Baileys Irish Cream. She had a special love for her childhood home of Biwabik, Minnesota, Grand Beach and winter residence in Las Vegas.
Barbara was predeceased by her father Ralph McArthur, mother Frances Nicholson (Paulisic), sister Joan Bogart, brother Ralph (Sonny) McArthur and her oldest son Richard Hartley. She will be mourned by her sons David (Winnipeg), Scott (Las Vegas) and Bruce (Saskatoon) and grandchildren Daniel, Sean, Rebecca, Jessica, Dory, Louis and Michael along with many nieces and nephews.
Barbara Wood passed away peacefully while in the care of the staff at River Park Gardens in Winnipeg and the family wishes to thank them for their years of patience, caring and professionalism.
