March 25, 1941 – January 10, 2025
It is with sad hearts we share the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Art Geith on January 10, 2025, in the comfort of his own home.
Art is greatly missed by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dianne; his daughter Christina and her daughter Isabella; his son Stuart and his wife, Gifty and their daughter Joyce; his son David and his wife, Christy and their children, Mackenzie, Nicholas, Joshua and Addison; and his son Michael and his wife, Stephanie and their daughter, Cassandra. Art will also be missed by Dianne’s family, their many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends at home and around the world.
Art was predeceased by his parents Paul and Johanette; and by his brothers Arnold and Walter.
Art was born in rural Saskatchewan on March 25, 1941, and spent his early years in Russell, Manitoba working on the family farm – raking, shoveling, and hauling manure.
After graduating Grade 12, he left the farm and, as he put it, ‘ran to the bus stop’ for the big city of Winnipeg where he attended the University of Manitoba. After completing his degree, he worked for Eatons as a Management Trainee, but quickly decided he was not on the right path and returned to UM and enrolled in the Education program. In 1963 he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, majoring in Math and began his teaching career at St. John’s-Ravenscourt School.
On Valentine’s Day in 1967, he met the love of his life, Dianne while skiing at Mount Agassiz in Riding Mountain National Park. They knew they were meant to be, and they married on July 8 that same year in Sudbury, Ontario after which they spent the summer camping in a tent trailer en route to Expo ‘67 in Montréal.
After returning to Winnipeg, in the fall of 1967 Art began teaching high school Math in the Seven Oaks School Division. He taught at Garden City, West Kildonan and Maples Collegiates. He taught in Seven Oaks until his early retirement in 1996. While teaching he also held many volunteer positions, as teachers do, including the position of President of The Seven Oaks Teachers’ Association.
Art worked hard to be a good husband, father, and grandfather, to provide for them and to give his family an amazing life. To that end he continued his studies and in 1983 earned an Advanced Certificate in Education advancing him to Class 7.
Art was never afraid to tackle a project and one of his best was the motor home he built from an old yellow school bus so he could truck his wife and family 2,000 kilometers every year to Ontario to visit Dianne’s family. They also explored Manitoba every weekend in style with the bus as part of The Nomads camping club.
Art was also a supportive and dedicated community member. Art started volunteering at the Kirkfield-Westwood Community Centre in 1978 shoveling snow off the outdoor rinks. In his later years as President of the KWCC, he worked side-by-side with Keith Bodley to build the Keith Bodley Arena on Sansome Avenue in Westwood. Because of his hard work and dedication to the community, the executives at KW honoured him by naming the board room, “The Art Geith Board Room.”
On a personal level, Art was loved by his wife and children but adored by his grandchildren. They all have special memories and stories about time spent with their ‘Grandpa’ and have, over the years, loved putting together little mementos to share the ‘best of the best’ Grandpa stories. We were all so lucky that he prioritized spending time with his family.
At Art’s request, cremation has already taken place, and a Mass will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church on Monday, February 3rd at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Art to Rossbrook House.

My sincere condolences to the family. I have taught four of his grandchildren, who are all wonderful people, and this obituary captures how important his connection with them has been. It also sounds like he was dedicated to improving many people’s lives in his teaching and volunteer work. Although I did not know him, my heart goes out to the family as you are evidently grateful for the good memories but will be missing him.
My deepest condolences Aunt Dianne, Christina, Stuart, David, Michael and family. I have many fond memories of Uncle Art, from our family trip out to Winnipeg in ’75, to the many trips you would make to Ontario to visit family.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all
Love Bruce
we are so sorry to hear of Art’s death. We will keep you in our prayers. Love Don and Clare
Dear Old Dad…. I miss you.
Luv, Dotter
It is so sad to realize that Art is physically gone.
And, those words “Raking, shoveling and hauling manure” are soooo Art.
I loved hearing his stories because he told stories so well !
And, I appreciated and Loved Art and Dianne – In 1970 not long after being released from a Mexican Carcel (And, I said Carcel, Not Cartel !), I needed temporary accommodations, and they provided such, and Art even loaned to me his construction boots (a touch loose !) and much appreciated, while I searched for work and while I started on a construction job at least until I could afford my own pair of boots !
I thank you for being part of my life, Art, and I Love You.
Dianne and family

We want to express our deepest sympathies to Diane and the entire Geith family on the loss of Art. He was a wonderful man and very friendly neighbour who always took time to chat as we walked past his home with our dog Rocco. He will be missed. Rest in peace.
