May 23, 1947 – January 4, 2020

On January 4, 2020, Anthony passed away after a brief stay at Health Sciences Centre. He passed away peacefully in his sleep and surrounded by family. Tony was born in East St. Paul, MB on May 23, 1947. He had a busy, fun, sport-filled and beautiful life with his family.

Tony will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Marlene Ruth Yarema (Ethier), his four children, Kyle, Kelly (Jan), Tyler, Marla (Erik) and six grandchildren, Lindsay, Andrew, Luc, Megan, Nicole and April. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Early in his career, Tony obtained his pilot licence and Marlene would reluctantly accompany him on short trips. One of their hobbies included bowling together. On family vacations, Tony enjoyed driving the car and motorhome (with the four children bouncing around in the back). He enjoyed watching hockey on TV, attending his sons’ and grandchildren’s hockey and baseball games. Tony enjoyed playing hockey himself. Over the years, he became involved in coaching his sons’ teams. The family made many friends through hockey, enjoyed get-togethers and traveling to tournaments with them.

Tony was a reliable man in his career. He was employed by Favorite Transport, Winnipeg Transit and Beaver Bus Lines (just to name a few). He often worked at more than one job and never really retired. Tony also enjoyed tinkering in his garage fixing cars. He spent the most time working on Pontiac Fieros, and Sunfires. In his more recent years, he enjoyed spending time at his life-long home with his grandchildren, family and friends. He loved helping people, and often teased the family with his dry sense of humour. He was a reliable, supportive, and a good listener to his family and friends.

Special thanks to the Health Sciences Centre doctors, nurses, and staff on GH4 for their compassionate care.

Service will be held on Monday January 13, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home 472 Kirkfield Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Anthony Yarema to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Manitoba, 566 Bannatyne Avenue.

  1. Yes when I heard of his passing from my son Casey I remembered all the times we spent together Ken, myself Tony and Marlene to all the rural baseball tournaments and in Winnipeg first just the four of us and then dragging our kids along we had so much fun we met some wonderful people. Tony and Ken were very competitive. Also, all the hockey games we went to for our children standing outside freezing , and of course the few years of five pin bowling just myself with Tony, Marlene and friends . Yes we had some great times I remembered all that when I heard. Tony must have loved that our kids and sports kept on going with baseball. My family and I send our deepest condolences for your loss, to his dear wife Moey and his dear children and grandchildren.

SAD NEWS, VERY SORRY TO HEAR OF TONY’S PASSING….. although we were neighbours, we seldom connected but always got a wave or a smile. please accept our deepest sympathy to Marion and the family….

  3. So sorry to learn of Tony’s passing. Gone much too soon. He was to me a “First”-First cousin, (double, given our parents brother sister exchange marriages). Tony was a one of a kind endearing character whose presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him including those of us long separated by time and distance. To Marlene and to his family, I pray God’s peace and comfort may rest upon you. – Rick Tone
