After a lengthy courageous battle with cancer, Allan passed away on December 27, 2020.

He was predeceased by his parents Leo and Irene and his brother Gary.

He will forever be remembered by his loving partner Rita; her daughters Robin and Debbie and son Jamie; four granddaughters, Lindsay, Jordan, Sydney and Addison; along with his brother Greg; niece Katie (Mark) and their daughter Melody; and his nephew Robert (Larissa) and their daughter Mya.

Al was born in Gimli, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg with his family. He attended Grant Park High School and the University of Winnipeg. He was employed with The Bay, Eatons and Sears, where he retired from. He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, curling and golf. He especially enjoyed and looked forward to his annual fall golf weekend with the guys.

Rita and Al enjoyed travelling together. They always adored their winter vacations and Puerto Vallarta was their favorite.

Al loved spending time with family and friends and was a huge animal lover. He will be missed dearly.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of one’s choice.

  1. Dear Al,
We are going to miss you dear friend. After we had heard the sad news of your passing, we (your golf buddies) got together via Zoom the next day and shared many wonderful memories of you from our many golf weekends. Needless to say, we were on Zoom for a long time telling stories and toasting you more than once, It was clear from the conversation that you leave an indelible impression on us, having made our lives richer and fuller for being part of them. Thanks Al for being our friend, we have been truly blessed by your friendship!

To Rita and family, our thoughts and prayers are sent your way as you grieve Al’s passing.
A donation will be made to Cancer Care in memory of Al by his golf buddies.

  2. To Rita and family, Chippy and I would like to say how sadden we were after hearing about Al’s passing. Our time together will never be forgotten. A good friend and will surely be missed.

Playing slo-pitch or golf with him was always fun but also a learning experience. A man of few words, his actions said it all. A quiet but fierce competitor. Not a long ball hitter in either but a master at picking the right spots to place the ball. A cagey poker player. His advice and decision making for team blue on our golf weekends will be impossible to replace. The only guy that knew how to cook my steaks just right. Flame broiled, doused in a pool. Al, the strength you showed coming this past Sept is a testament of your friendship to all of us. Take care my friend.

I never know what to say here but I will do my best.
I met al back in the good ole Sears days and he took me under his wing in the furniture department. We became instant friends and one of Al’s greatest attributes to life was how he got his message across..I have to laugh when he was showing me how to use the furniture book he looked me in the face and said…I’m only showing you once…ask again on the same thing and the sale is mine lol…then he invited me to try my hand at golf and with another friend Steve we became a trio of that hit the links once a week and always enjoyed trying a new course every week if we could.
When winter rolled around we decided to try our hand at indoor simulators and that also became a blast for us on a weekly basis.
We enjoyed many weekend get togethers at Steve’s or Al’s place playing cards board games and darts…and ofcourse drink always brought out the laughter..
Steve and myself enjoyed Al’s company to the fullest and he was always up for a road trip to a new golf course.
Al you will be so missed and I hope to meet up with you again..safe journey friend…I have shed a tear or two thinking of you…
Steve and I will play around this summer in your memory and toast a glass or two for you!

  4. We finally played that round of golf yesterday at kildonan golf course and toasted you a few times….From Steve and I we miss you so much and thanks for all the memories
