September 4, 1946 – August 10, 2023
Allan Elwood Stuart was born in Morden, Manitoba on September 4, 1946, to Ruby and Albert.
He was the eldest of three children and was survived by his sister Shirley Payment and brother Gordon. He grew up in the Wood Bay District/Pilot Mound Manitoba.
He met the love of his life, Marguerite Loiselle, at the farm on the September long weekend in 1979. When she came home told her sister that she had met her soulmate.
When he proposed, he told Marguerite, “I can’t promise that we will be wealthy, but I can promise you all my love for you and your children, a roof over your head, and food on the table.” He kept this promise.
They were married on May 24, 1980. Allan became a dad to Suzanne, Jacqueline, Jean-Paul, Danielle, and Nicole. Later they fostered children and Joe became part of the family. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1983. Allan was an adored uncle to many nieces and nephews.
In 1990, he began working for Costco Wholesale, and in 1995 transferred to work at the new Costco in Abbotsford BC. They moved back home to Winnipeg in 2017.
Allan treasured his family and welcomed his children’s spouses as his own – Jacqueline’s husband Colin Anderson, Jean-Paul’s wife Scarlett Ballantyne, and Danielle’s husband Robert Nemeth.
Allan was a beloved grandfather to Kayla and husband David Price; Keith and wife Pamela Aplin; and Isabella and husband Erik Niebuhr, Chloe, Logan, Demi, Eva, and Drew, and great-grandchildren Teagan and Austin.
He was proud of being Catholic and an Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus. He and Marguerite were actively involved in all the parishes where they attended church.
They were members of the Thousand Trails Camping Association and camped with family and friends, over the Pacific Northwest coast special spots Cultus Lake in BC and Birch Bay WA.
He loved going on cruises with his wife and their best friends, his sister-in-law Carolynne and her husband Joseph Yuen. He loved a wee drink or coffee with snacks while playing cards with family and friends.
Moving back to Winnipeg gave them the opportunity to truly rekindle family relationships with brothers Gordon and Marie, sister Shirley, in-laws Robert and Charlotte, Roger and Jan, Raymond and Robin.
He was predeceased by his parents, and several brothers-in-law Ted, Joseph, Raymond, and Roger. Sisters-in-law Marie, Charlotte, and Robin. We know that they are together in Heaven.
Allan passed away at Victoria Hospital on the morning of August 10, 2023. The family would like to thank the staff of the Grace Hospital 3rd floor North and the Victoria Hospital 4th floor North for the wonderful care he received.
A special thank you to Dr. Brian Sharkey.
Allan will be joyfully remembered and sadly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Diabetes Foundation of Canada would be gratefully accepted.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette’s Parish at 820 Cottonwood Road.
Following the service, the family would like you to join them in the upstairs hall for a time of fellowship and refreshments.
Interment will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery on Archibald Street for family and friends who would like to attend.

I was friends with Nicole and Danielle for many years before ever meeting their parents.. Allan was so very welcoming and calm amongst the action, food, kids, pets and noise. He was funny and witty and I loved to joke around with him, the man was so patient. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. My deepest condolences to the entire family. Rest in peace Allan. 🙏🙏
