November 11, 1979 – October 28, 2021
The passionate, outspoken, brazen and beautiful Shelley Ann Scott (fondly know as Beans), completed her journey of life in the afternoon of October 28, 2021 at 41 years of age.
In November 2016, Shelley was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and used the past several years to advocate for equal access to clinical trials and medications, educate the medical community about how to support their patients and inspire everyone to live their life to the fullest.
Shelley had many roles in life; daughter, sister, auntie, niece, cousin and friend. She was also a chef, wordsmith, camper, arts and culture enthusiast, traveler, volunteer, dog walker, and bona fide clutz.
She is remembered by her parents, Clint and Lorna, her sister Cheryl (Mike), her nephew Ethan and niece Kayla, Uncle Claude, Uncle John, Aunty Bonnie, Aunty Bea, Tyler (Elena) Colin (Janique), Colleen, Dwayne (Kim) along with countless collected family – her friends. She is predeceased by her Auntie Susan, and her cat Karma.
Born in Winnipeg November 11, 1979, Shelley grew up on Perry Avenue, she attended Ecole Centrale, Ecole Regent Park and graduated from College Pierre Elliott Trudeau in 1997 with friends she still has today. After graduation, Shelley took many different career paths including but not limited to; working at Mardi Grass Lawn Care, The Weekend Edition, Dairy Queen, McPhillips Street Station, Coles Books, Best West Pet Food, Pot Pourri Coffee & Tea, Applebees, CIBC and the canteen in the arena on Osborne. She also worked as an enumerator, a nanny, went door to door selling coupons, worked in taxation, an Avon Rep, Cigar Girl and ran a foot detox business for a while. She started with MTS in 2001 and gained a coffee group that forever changed her life and all of theirs. The cream and sugar of it all was the passion it created for crosswords which continued to expand her vast vocabulary.
Instilled by her parents from birth was an intense passion for arts and culture. She particularly loved music, but also live theatre and musicals. Her love of music took her on road trips to various stages and sitting in the best seats, and she truly thrived at music festivals, especially Folk Fest. Along with music, Shelley was an avid reader and often expressed that she couldn’t believe how many books she managed to read in her life; despite her poor eyesight she never listened to audio books – it simply didn’t count.
Shelley was passionate about the wonderment of Mother Earth and the power of tree therapy through hiking and camping. She found beauty and peace in the prairies and at Uncles cabin on Lake Winnipeg, at the Scottage, Flav’r Country, her travels within Canada, and also when she could cross borders on trips across North America, Europe, Dominican, and even just driving across flat, straight, boring roads with the right playlist and people.
In 40 years, Shelley really lived at least four lifetimes and was always busy, talking, laughing, cooking, camping, hiking, dancing and embracing life. She would like to give John, Paul, Ringo and George a very special mention for the incredible impact they had on her life. The End.
In her memory, she has asked that you plant a tree, or kindly donate to Cancer Care Manitoba or to the Never Alone Foundation, both of which provided helpful programs and support throughout her journey.
Special thanks to Jocelyn and Errol for their friendship and help, and to the nurses on EC at St. Boniface Hospital.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at King’s Head Pub, 120 King Street in Winnipeg. Please come any time after 4:30pm for happy hour on the second floor, program to begin at 6:30pm. As per Shelley’s request, no guests are to wear black – bright attire is required. There was no one like her. She always made time for us. Worked extra hard to make Barry hear her , he loved her loud voice .
We loved her to the stars and back .
How she taught us so much with each visit about life mostly. We shared her love for the bush and fires. Music of course . I will think of her with every Beatles tune we hear , at every fire we make and of course with every tree we plant .
Miss you and love you Shelley, with an extra e xxx
Although I didn’t know Shelley very well, I had the pleasure of drinking wine into the wee hours with her on several occasions at Jocelyn and Errol’s. She was a burst of energy and a joy to be around. My sincere condolences to all who knew and loved her ❤️
I was part of her MTS coffee group. I can’t say how much she will be missed from our group. Shelley was always positive, never complaining. Although i was old enough to be her mothet, we chatted as there was no difference in age. May she be at peace.
I met Shelley when she came to my Dept. at MTS. We learned we were both from Transcona. She offered me a ride home and we laughter and chatted all the way. ( My foot was on an imaginary brake all the way) LoL! Shelley was very smart, funny and loved to laugh. We had a few lunches together and she always had stories to tell. I will miss her fun personality and love of life. Rest in Peace Shelley . I know you are pain free and in paradise!

Though the times i spent with you were few ‘your presence always made for fun times’ i am saddened that ultimately cancer took you ‘ but man o man did you pack a lotta life into your 41 years ‘ i would like to express the deepest condolences to all her family and close friends ‘ shelley you truly were ‘ one of a kind ‘ .
We were new friends. I had the privilege to attend a concert here in Ottawa with Shelley. Let me tell you that was our first and last one but we rock the place ❤️ Tonight the sky was full of star and I’m pretty sure I saw you dancing on one ⭐️ ❤️
Was Shelley’s hairdresser and friend from around 12 years old. Oh the stories and the laughs we would have! She grew up in my chair and what a beautiful young lady she became ! I know everyone will agree with me that “ there was only one “Shelley Scott”! Will be an empty hole in my heart. RIP sweet angel.
As I read this my heart breaks once again. Knowing we’ll never have another conversation over beers and a fire is unsettling. However I’m also reminded of all the wonderful times we’ve spent together. The countless nights which in turn would become mornings of craziness. You were always deep down a gentle, kind and compassionate soul. You will be miss by me and our family. Be at rest my friend.
So sorry to hear of Shelly’s passing. She was always laughing and smiling when I saw her. Keep shining !
I was blessed to be a small part in Shelley’s life, as I too was part of the Coffee Group and also worked with her in the Assignment Department for many years at MTS.
She was a dynamic, fun loving person who always had a story to tell when she was on a adventure or when she met someone new in her life. Our coffee chats were never boring to say when Shelley was around !
Anyone who’s path have crossed with Shelley will always remember her Spirit, Spontaneous Laughter, Kindness & Generosity towards people.
She touched many lives and all of us who had the chance to know her miss her dearly. R.I.P. my dear friend. 💔💔
I will remember Shelly forever. She was that great person who always set the air around with such a special energy. A chat with her had her unique and wonderful spark as a condiment, while she was sharing her admirable and vast general-knowledge; she used to read piles of books! Keep sparking, Shelley!
I worked with Shelly at MTS , I was always amazed by her strong work ethic for someone so young . I enjoyed sharing recipes with Shelly ,her knowledge of fresh herbs in salads & marinate was excellent . It was a huge privilege to have you as my friend .
