Gary Wayne Heke
1948 – 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Wayne Heke.

He was born to John (Jack) Stewart Heke and Elizabeth (Bettie) Heke in Vancouver, BC. He leaves to mourn his wife Anita and four children Jamie Marcoux, Chris Heke (Jessica), Jeff Heke, and Joey Marcoux, and his grandchildren Evan, Kyle, and Rowan, as well as his brothers John (Bonnie) and Barry and his sister Diane (Warren).

Gary was a retired police officer, husband, father, and a proud grandfather. Gary and Anita enjoyed their nomadic lifestyle traveling North America in search of adventures, ensuring parkas were not required.

A service will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Hwy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary’s memory to Winnipeg Police Association Charitable Trust.

  1. Condolences to the family. Very sad news. I will miss him. Had not seen him for some time, however, I enjoyed following along on your Winter adventures online. A good and honest person has moved on to his next adventure. Always in our hearts and minds. Thinking of Gary always makes me smile.

  2. Gary was my big brother,Always looked out for his (the punk) little brother Rusty. He didn’t like scorpions though,as mom and I found out camping overnight on our way to Dallas to see uncle Fred. Him and his buddy slept in the car while Mom and I barricaded ourselves in the tent. You should have bought food with the money mom and dad gave you to feed me and John when they went to Wallace Lake for 3 weeks one summer. It’s okay,I was 12 years old and your buddies taught me that beer makes me sick. P.S. the Miltons down the street gladly fed me.
God,Gary I so will miss you and you are the greatest brother anyone could have had.
P.S. Him riding up to visit me in St.Vital on his Winnipeg P.D. cop bike always scared the hell out of my roommates and my visitors.
I’m sure he enjoyed seeing people running out the back door when he showed up more than our guests did.
And from Vancouver this little brother wishes I could be there with you guys to say goodbye to my hero.

  3. Barry & family, I was researching our family history, especially our grandparents, Ernest & Jean Adams, and I found this notice. So sorry for your loss. Love to hear from you. Rick Adams (son of Fred) adamsrick57 at gmail com
