December 23, 1994 – May 30, 2021
We are saddened to announce that on May 30, 2021, our beautiful daughter Ashley Ann Goodwin, age 26, of Winnipeg, MB unexpectedly passed away from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Ashley was born on December 23, 1994 to Peter and Kelly Goodwin in Winnipeg, MB.
Ashley was a smart, beautiful girl with a caring heart, a sense of humour second to none, a sharp wit, and a smile and infectious laugh that made people take notice. She lived her life in the moment, and whatever she did was always done to the fullest.
Ashley was a gifted athlete that excelled in many sports, but her love was volleyball. She was an intense teammate and played with extreme passion. She had an ability to inspire both on and off the court and was driven to win – to her, winning was the ultimate (and only acceptable) result. Although she played on many different teams during her years, she was most proud of her accomplishments in her 2 years at Red River College. After not touching a volleyball after high school for 5 years, she decided to play again. With hard work and determination, she not only made the team, but was awarded with MCAC’s Most Valuable Player both years and led the team to their first MCAC championship.
Ashley had a very large circle of friends and gave herself to them without thought. She was always there to listen, and she always did whatever she could to make them happy. She valued every one of her friendships, whether they be from school, sports, work, or just random people she met throughout her life.
After graduation, Ashley spent her working time as a server until she enrolled at Red River College and received her outdoor power equipment certificate. She continued within the hospitality sector until she found her perfect job working as a ‘farm hand’ at Halarda Farms in Elm Creek taking care of calves. She loved the hard work, and spending the days with her “calf babies” brought her great joy.
Ashley is survived by her parents, Peter and Kelly; brother Christian (Amanda McKendry); grandparents Charolette Wynn and Dave Anton; her aunts and uncles Deborah Maytchak (Wynn), Susan Goodwin, Glen McBurnie, Ian Goodwin, Pattie Horadam, Carolyn Richert (Goodwin) and Harold Richert; her cousins Scott and Kevin McBurnie, Darcy Richert, Laura Goodwin, and Devyn, Tierney and Aidan Maytchak.
We wish to thank Stars Air Ambulance and all the doctors and nurses at Health Sciences Centre for the care they gave Ashley and for their support to the family. We also wish to thank all of Ashley’s friends and family members for your heart felt calls, texts and messages – every one of you contributed something different to Ashley’s life which only enriched it further. And thank you to Halarda Farms for taking a chance on some “city girl” who showed up at your door with fake nails and her hair and make-up all done and giving her the job she always wanted.
We will miss Ashley terribly – she has left a hole that can never be filled. We take great comfort in knowing that Ashley touched so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, and due to her love of animals, we ask if you choose to donate, to please donate to Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue in memoriam of Ashley Goodwin.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Thank you Andrea. You’ve been so kind keeping in touch throughout this time and it is appreciated. Our love to you.
To the Goodwin family, My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this extremely difficult time. I was very proud that I had an opportunity to have coached Ashley on our Cobras Volleyball team. I was so happy that she decided to go back to school and play at Red River and was even more proud when I got a chance to watch her play and yes receive the MVP of the College League. Ashley was an amazing young lady with an infectious smile. I loved her intensity when it came to playing at Nationals she would do everything in her power to find a way to help her team WIN. Rest In Peace Ashley The Volleyball Community has lost a real special young lady with so much of her life ahead of her. Sincerely Jon Hykawy
Thank you Jon,
Ashley loved her time on the Cobras and respected you so much as a coach. She thrived under your coaching and she knew (as did all the other players) that they could really count on you if they needed you. She always spoke highly of you personally and in your role as coach. Her mischievous ways I’m sure sometimes got under your skin… but you have to admit she kept things interesting haha.
We thank you for touching her life as you did.
All our best.
So sorry to hear of your families devastating loss.
Wishing you love and strength at this difficult time .
XXX OOO Myra
Thank you Myra.
We are definitely pulling love and support from friends like you. Your words are very appreciated.
Love to you and your family ♥️
I met Ashley in the final year of my volleyball career. I was struggling majorly with anxiety to the point where it ended my career halfway through the season. But throughout my months of playing, if I were to miss a practice or wasn’t quite myself at a game Ashley would always check on me. I could always count on having a Facebook message from her checking in on me to see if I was doing okay. She had such a big heart and she helped me through a lot of rough games! Although our friendship was short lived, she’ll always have a special place in my heart!
Thank you Brooke. I remember you from the Rebels, I remember Ashley telling me that you were going to be unable to finish the season and her caring way when speaking of you. You were so solid on the court and Ashley enjoyed playing with you (and I enjoyed watching you). It gives us great comfort to know that you felt you could count on her to check in with you.
Thank you for your message – it warmed our hearts 💕
Ashley’s Family,
I played with Ashley at RRC 2017-2018. Ashley was such a fun person to be around. On the court, you knew she’d push you to be better and held you to a high standard, and off, she was the life of the party and always had a quick joke for everything. She will be so missed.
Wishing all of you so much love and support.
Thank you Gabrielle for the kind message about Ashley. I remember you from the RRC team. You are right, she pushed teammates hard on the court but afterwards it was time for fun.
All our best to you ❤
Thoughts and prayers to the Goodwin Familly
I had the pleasure of working with Ashley her Gr 12 year with Cobras Volleyball. She was a very gifted player and athlete and quite the character. She had a great sense of humour and was loved by her teammates. Was very happy to hear she went back to playing at RRCC.
She will be missed
Sincerely Doug Ross
Thank you Doug for the part you played in Ashley’s volleyball and your kind words. She certainly was a character and loved to make people laugh.
Take care.
Peter we went to school together, we grew up and went on separate journeys. Journeys that created families and memories. Your tribute to your daughter painted a picture of a beautiful, kind, animal loving soul. A soul I wish I could have met. ❤️
My heartfelt condolences go out to the Goodwin family and the Anton family. 🤗
Thank you Shelley, I appreciate your kind words, and yes life and family took us in different directions after school which is common place as we grow, I remember your kind way and always a smile. Ashley was a kind and loving soul who cared deeply for animals. She was a bright star and I will forever miss her mischievous ways and smile . Thank you again for reaching out.
Peter and family
Kelly & Peter,
I am absolutely devastated to hear of Ashley’s passing. I attended school with Ashley since grade 7 and got to know her quite well. Throughout school we enjoyed playing volleyball and would often hangout during volleyball tournaments. She was a wonderful friend & athlete and had a great sense of humour, always laughing. I was fortunate enough to see her at Birds Hill Park and catch up with her a few Summers ago. She seemed to be so happy with where she was at in her life. I can’t imagine what your family is going through right now, and i sincerely hope that you will get through this difficult time and cherish the memories of her. I will always remember her.
With love and support,
Jason
Dear Jason. Thank you for your message and kind words. I know for a fact that Ashley cherished her friendship with you. I remember the 2 of you hanging out and having fun.
I also remember her telling me she saw you out at Birds Hill and how excited she was about it.
Sending you our love – thank you for being a part of her life.
Kelly and Peter:
I was shocked and saddened to read of Ashley’s sudden passing. Your heartfelt obituary and her beautiful photo are a touching reminder of the fragility of life.
When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. May your loving memories of Ashley guide you through this journey of sorrow.
