Eleanor Helen Dutkewich Nee Lotecki

March 8, 1928 – May 15, 2021

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eleanor on May 15, 2021 at the St. Boniface Hospital.

Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved husband Paul of 66 years; her cherished son Brent; parents Andrew and Mary (Rosmus) Lotecki; siblings Walter, twins Frank & Frances, Carrie, Mary Vera, Stella, John, Lillian and Jean.

Eleanor will be lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Debra Dutkewich; granddaughter Katie Dutkewich; sister-in-law Sally Kwatkowski; and God Child Gladys Woodcock; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends.

Eleanor was born on March 8, 1928 in Melrose, Manitoba. Eleanor met the love of her life Paul Dutkewich and they married on July 31, 1948. They moved to their new home in East Kildonan in 1955 where they developed lifelong friendships with their neighbours. Eleanor worked at Christie Biscuits until 1961 when their son Brent was born. Eleanor loved watching Brent play hockey and soccer. She also loved watching her adored granddaughter Katie grow up.

Eleanor and Paul were long-life Jets fans, holding season tickets. She loved to curl and play the odd game of golf. She was a great cook and had many family and friends over for gatherings at their home. She was known for her famous cheesecake. She also loved to garden. Eleanor was a devoted Catholic who attended the Polish National Catholic Church of St. Mary’s Parish, 365 Burrows Ave in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school.

Eleanor was a very kind, gentle, compassionate person who loved her family dearly. She was a very loyal friend and gave help and care to anyone who was in need. She had a big heart and loved and respected everyone. Eleanor will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private graveside funeral will take place at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Cooks Creek, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Polish National Catholic Church of St. Mary’s or a charity of your choice in Eleanor’s memory.
