June 14, 1956 – September 13, 2020
It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Roger Leonard Young on Sunday, September 13, 2020. He had always told me that if he had to leave us, he’d want it to be while he was riding – and he got his wish.
He was predeceased by his mother Jean Young; his father Leonard Young and his sister Dianna Vowels.
He leaves behind his wife of 12 years, Janis Young (a.k.a Pete), his daughter Amber and granddaughter Ella, his son Tyler and granddaughter Hayden and grandson Deacon, his stepson Jakob (Kristina) and grandson Lukas, and his step son Sam (Ronald). He also leaves behind his three sisters, Kathy, Deanna (Gary) and Barbara, and his brother Michael (Sharon) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Roger was born on June 14, 1956. He started riding dirt bikes when he was 14 years old – so he’d been riding 50 years – he felt honored to be able to brag about that. Riding his motorcycle was one of his greatest passions in life, and he didn’t let the weather, or even the snow, stop him! He started a career in welding when he was 14 years old, and grew to become a master fitter welder. He spent 10 long, hard years up in the Arctic working for Purvis Navcon Shipyards. It was a hard go, but he wouldn’t have traded the experience for anything. He spent the rest of his career as a welder/ fitter/welding supervisor in a variety of locations throughout Canada.
He was as passionate about his music as he was about his riding. He loved playing in front of a crowd, or around the fire, and he loved sharing his gift with others through his charisma and energy.
Roger impacted many lives in the riding community, the music community, the tradesmen community, and, of course, in his family circle.
There will not be a service at this time. A celebration of Roger’s life will take place in the future.

Very sad to hear of Roger’s passing! Our condolences and prayers to all of his family! You will be missed! Don & Terry (Lisoway) Kovacs
Rodger was a one of a kind! He really loved his motorcycling so much, that one winter, he wanted to go just down the back lane, during the winter. Well, there was a bit of a warm spell, and he decided to go for a quick spin. But, the door shed was frozen shut, so he tried melting the ice away, with a tiger torch! Almost burned the shed down! Lol! I will miss his good humour, his chuckle, and the way he could go around curves, on his bike! Roger may be gone, physically, but if we keep him in our hearts & memories, he still lives on! RIP Rodger Young????????
When we were little tykes I have fond memories of us playing on swings in the back yard. Just this past year we were connecting once again and got to meet some of his family including his lovely wife “Pete” Janis and now sadly he’s gone too soon…I know he was quite a great guy and many including ourselves thought he was quite a character with great charisma and just an all around great guy to know…he was my cousin…he became my friend once again…RIP Roger… Till we meet up again…
So sorry to hear of your loss. I was away for many many years from Winnipeg . But i do remember Roger when we were young. My sister Tracy told me of your band and i was so looking forward to meeting up again and see your band. Maybe some day in heaven. Rest in peace Roger. Say hi to Uncle Art Young and Tot (Florence Young) for me. And your dad and mom.
Love your cousin Laurie Young-Buschette
There are certain people that are in your life fleetingly; Like a shooting star they blaze a path across your psyche touching you forever. And as quick as they are there, they are gone. I met Roger up in McKinley Bay. He made the unbearable tolerable. Playing his guitar and telling stories. I had always hoped our paths would cross again. Even married a girl from Stonewall to facilitate it. Even though I haven’t seen him in 30 years, I will miss him the rest of my life
