March 31, 1932 – February 29, 2020
Emma passed away following a brief illness, on February 29, at the Concordia Place Personal Care Home.
Emma is predeceased by her husband Arnold. Left to cherish her memory are her son James; daughter Brenda; son-in-law Simon; and her grandchildren Alex, Amy, and Meghan.
Emma was born on March 31, 1932, in Grayson, Saskatchewan. Emma spent her early life in Saskatchewan, and moved to Winnipeg in her 20’s.
Emma had many passions. She loved gardening and summertime meant fresh vegetables from her garden. In the Fall, our kitchen turned in to a mini-cannery, so that garden vegetables could be preserved to enjoy throughout the winter. Emma loved to cook and was known for putting on a ‘good spread’. No meal was complete without at least three meat dishes, a wide selection of side dishes, and of course dessert. Emma is best known for her perogies – her Grandchildren claim Grandma’s perogies were the best they have ever eaten.
Needlepoint was one of Emma’s favorite pastimes. She would spend hours stitching beautiful pictures. She completed and framed over twenty pictures, which were on display in our family home for many years.
Emma treasured her Grandchildren and doted on them as only Grandma can. Emma loved spending time at the family cottage at Little Gordon Lake. She loved tending to her flower beds, picking blueberries, fishing for lake trout, and playing cards. Most of all she loved spending time with her family at the lake. She loved the hot days of summer on the beach, and she loved swimming and tubing with her Grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank the staff at the Concordia Place Personal Care Home for their kind and compassionate care.
As per Emma’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of cards and flowers, please consider a donation to the Manitoba Alzheimer’s Society.

I first met Emma when I was 7 years old when we moved to E.K. Emma and Arnold were two of the nicest neighbors you could ever hope to have. What I remember about Emma is how good her cooking was and always looking forward to eating at the Sandbergs. In todays world I am quite certain that Emma could have had a successful Youtube cooking channel.
