November 1, 1963 – February 15, 2020

It is with deep sadness that the family of Cathy announces her peaceful passing in hospital after a lengthy illness.

Beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend Cathy was predeceased by her father Jeremiah Leahy, and is survived by her mother Norma; siblings Maura (Bill), Sheila (Harry) and Pat (Anna); nephews Jesse, Daniel, Ben and Alan, and nieces Brittany (Ryan, Sarah and Harrison) and Samantha. Also, stepchildren Michael, Michelle and John who held a special place in her heart, as well as cousins in England and Ireland and the USA.

Cathy was born in Singapore where we lived as her father was situated as M.D. with the British Armed Forces, and moved with her family to England, Sweden and then Canada. Cathy was an independent and happy child who loved learning, sports and especially animals. She was a caring and intelligent person who spent many years working in health care administration and other positions. In recent years, she resided in Winnipeg and enjoyed volunteering with several organizations – including the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Fringe Festival and Winnipeg Harvest.

Cathy loved her family deeply and enjoyed watching her nieces and nephews grow from young children into adulthood. She cherished spending time with family, especially at Maura’s place near Birds Hill park. We miss her tremendously.

The family is very appreciative of all the support she received from within the healthcare community over the years, as well as other organizations whose services helped her in her journey. In particulate we would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Health Care Aids at HSC D5 and H4, and the Home Care Nurses, we greatly appreciated the care and compassion you provided Cathy.

In memory of Cathy gifts may be made to the Cathy Leahy Fund at the Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3. Tel 204-944-9474. This fund will support organizations and causes that Cathy cherished and/or was supported by.

A service will be held on Saturday, February 29, at the Lutheran-United Church in Thompson, 52 Caribou Rd.  Time to be announced.
