February 3, 2002 – May 22, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Stow on Wednesday, May 22nd at the age of 17. He leaves behind his mother Tania, his father Paul, and his brother Evan, as well as his grandpa Walter and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Matthew was born on February 3rd, 2002 in Winnipeg. His birth was dramatic, arriving early and fast. The excitement of his birth carried over throughout the rest of his life. Matthew loved to entertain, whether it was a barbeque with friends, playing guitar, or doing impressions. He could bring joy to others through his sense of humour and he could always make someone laugh.

Matthew was musically gifted, always invested in music and instruments. He played guitar, bass and clarinet, while also being involved in his school’s band program and bands with friends. He was interested in sports and loved being part of the school football team. Matthew could be anyone and everyone’s friend. He was adventurous: he always was willing to try new things. Whether it was food, sports, or clubs, Matthew was willing to expand his horizons and participate with enthusiasm.

Matthew was always affectionate. When he was young, he gave hugs to people he knew. He continued his hugging habits as he grew older, showing his affection and love to others. Matthew always had a smile on. He always smiled, even when he might not have been feeling the same way inside. He put others before himself and he encouraged others to reach out to him, trying to help whenever he could. He volunteered to help with school events and was often one of the last to leave.

Matthew was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him in life. We would like to thank all family and friends for their condolences and support. We invite all to celebrate his life and share memories at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 1st at Voyage funeral home, 472 Kirkfield street. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation towards Kids Help Line or a charity of your choice.

You’ll be in our hearts forever Matthew.

  1. My deepest condolences to Matthew’s family and to all who loved him so greatly. Oh dear Matthew, your special ways will always be how I think of you. For the moments when I witnessed your friendship with Jack, as an observer, I could see your patience, kindness, humour, your connectedness and upbeat perspective. There is so much more to say but I am loss for the right words. Such a fragile age and I, like so many others, wish that time could be reversed. The news has broken many hearts. All of us who have been touched by your gifts, forever will feel such a major loss of you in this physical world. Thank-you for sharing yourself with the community. I am beyond grateful to have been graced by you. Continue to shine your bright light, Matthew.
