August 7th, 1946 – January 23, 2025
Evanthia Aglogallos (Vana), age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 23, 2025, at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg Manitoba. She was born on August 7th, 1946, in Chandrinos Greece to George and Dimitra Karambatsos. She is survived by her husband Christos, her son Costa (Courtney), her daughter Dimitra (Scott), her grandchildren Christos and Mary Evanthia and her siblings; Jimmy (Anna), Katina, Panayotis (Georgia), and Elias. She is now dancing with her oldest sister Tula in Heaven.
In 1965, Vana came by boat to Halifax Canada and continued by train to Montreal. In 1971, she moved to Thompson Manitoba where she met her future husband Christos. They married in January of 1973 in Montreal. By 1975, they had settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba where they raised their family.
Vana nourished people around her with love, faith, kindness, and generosity. She loved loudly and fiercely. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, hosting dinners, enjoying her summers at the cottage and sharing time with her beloved grandchildren Christos and Mary in so many activities. Besides raising and guiding her own children to adulthood, Vana chose to devote many years to the care of foster children who she treated as if they were her own.
Vana had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She cherished her friendships and adored her girlfriends. She had an unshakeable faith with God and was deeply involved in the Greek community. She took enormous pride in her Greek heritage and culture. She was president of the senior’s group and enjoyed serving her community and church with passion, love, and integrity.
Vana will be remembered as a bright, and shining light in the lives that she touched. She will be forever missed and forever in our hearts and memories. We love you, Mom!
Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday January 31st, 2025, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00 a.m. followed by her interment at Brookside Cemetery, and a reception to be held back at the church.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a small donation to the church.

Rest in peace Vana. You’ll always be remembered as a kind and loving soul. Best neighbour we’ve ever had. Condolences to the whole family during this difficult time.
Dear Chris and family,
I have moved to Toronto so will be unable to attend the funeral but wish to convey my most sincere condolences to you all. Vanna was everything and more that you attributed to her in the obituary. May God rest her soul. She will be missed.
Love,
