May 25, 1953 – November 22, 2024
The world lost an angel with the passing of the beautiful Rosario “Jake” Evangeline Lopez Vedoya. Surrounded by loved ones, she died peacefully on the evening of November 22, 2024, at the age of 71 in Hospice at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Born in the Philippines on May 25, 1953, she migrated to Canada in 1975 to pursue her one true love, and her future healthcare career, passionately dedicating her life to caring for everyone around her. Her allegiance knew no bounds as she would never falter in her role as a loyal wife of over 50 years, steadfast mother to three, grandmother to three, and unwavering friend to many. Her stern, yet nurturing presence will be missed as the heartfelt lessons she bestowed upon us have shaped our lives, and will be passed on for generations to come.
A natural dramatic, Jake had a flair for the finer things in life and lived exactly the way she wanted. From winning Ballroom Dancing Competitions, enjoying classical music as well as evenings at the Ballet and the Opera, she also loved fine wines, smooth scotch whiskeys, and king-size cigarettes. Many will attest to her sense of fashion and extravagance, with gracious amounts of gold jewelry, designer clothing, and luxe dining, while also remembering her generosity as she never hesitated to feed you or even fight you for the entire bill.
Jake is survived by her husband, Elizer; their daughter Mignonne; son-in-law Randy; grandchildren Jacob, Ben, and Olivia; and youngest son Jordan. She was predeceased and is now reunited in paradise with her son Cornelius Arthur “Yuri” Vedoya.
A memorial will be held at the Maples Community Centre on January 12, 2025, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. All are welcome to celebrate the life and legacy she shared with us.
