March 14th, 1957 – September 5th, 2024
Mark Steven Penner peacefully passed September 5th, 2024, at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Mark passed at the age of 67.
Mark was born March 14th, 1957, in Calgary, Alberta. Mark lived in Calgary till the age of 12 when his family moved to Winnipeg.
Mark loved playing the piano and acting in school. He always had a good sense of humour and told many jokes and stories that made everybody laugh. Mark worked at Sutherland Supply until he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma; he was told he had 6 months to live. He surprised both family and doctors and continued to enjoy life.
Mark became a member of the 141 Legion and ran the bingo hall where he made lifelong friendships. Although Mark never had children of his own, he was a fantastic uncle to his nieces and nephews. All through Mark’s battle with cancer, he stayed positive. He loved Jamaican culture and travelled to Jamaica often. Bob Marley was one of his favourite musicians along with many other reggae artists. Mark was also an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish.
Mark will be lovingly missed by his sister Tracy (Daniel Buck); his niece Leah Koper and her children Fenix and Noah; along with his nephew Benjamin Koper and his children Lana Paulson and Reese Paulson; as well as many close friends including Grant Andrusky, Kirk Ginter, Daniel Wolfe, Katie bee, and many more.
In accordance with Marks’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Grace Hospital Foundation.
A special thanks to the incredible staff of Ward 3 at Grace Hospital.

I am so sorry to hear about Mark’s passing.
He was the guy with the colourful hat that I loved so much, a huge smile and a great sense of human.
Hugs and condolences to his family and friends and Katie Bee.
I worked with Mark at Sutherland Supply so many years ago. I’ve thought of him often through the years. He was a sweet guy when I worked with him! After almost 40 years I still hear his Aarbeedar!
Mark, you were/are truly unique… I will always remember breakfast & bowling at Roxy, laughing hard, sharing confidences, and your disinclination to wearing pink.
You did beat the odds, but anyone that knew you is not surprised.
I know everything will be IRIE for ya; you will be missed, but will always be with all of us.
Forever your friend,
Brenda Neubauer
