Arthur John Westwood

Arthur John Westwood
December 4, 1928 – August 13, 2024

It is with sadness and much love that the family of John announce his passing on August 13, 2024 at the age of 95.

He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Richard Westwood (Enid), daughter, Sandy Vieville (Gene), granddaughter, Alana Westwood (Avelyn) and grandson, Curtis Vieville and great-grandson Cohen and siblings Gillian Godwin and Richard Edward Westwood.

John was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Pamela, in 2013. John was born in Clacton-on-Sea, England and immigrated to Canada in 1951 with Pamela. Together they settled in Winnipeg and started a family.

With John’s love of conversation and friendly personality, he had a long and successful career as a salesman. Although John became a Canadian citizen, he still maintained many British characteristics, memories and stories of his life growing up in England.

John was an avid steam locomotive enthusiast and belonged to the Manitoba Live Steamer’s steam engine club for over 40 years. He spent countless hours in his workshop, building his own fully-functional scale replica models of his favorite engines. He operated them and gave rides at the Live Steamers railway track, to the delight of his grandchildren who loved to drive the steam engine with him when they were young and also for the general public.

For many years John was a regular volunteer at the Riverview Health Centre where he assisted patient rehabilitation in the wood working shop. John was a true Winnipegger and a faithful Winnipeg Blue Bomber and Winnipeg Jets fan.

Many thanks go out to the staff of Seine River Retirement residence for their kindness and care and to the many friends he made there, especially to his dear companion, Corinne Montsion.

In accordance with John’s wish there will be no funeral. A celebration of John’s life will take place in late October.

  1. Truly enjoyed John’s company and sparkling sense of humour. A good friend, and I’m the better for having known him.
