Robert (Bob) Hill

Robert Bob Hill

November 15, 1937 – June 5, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our much-loved father, husband, and grandfather Robert Hill on June 5, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Mb at the age of 86.

Robert was born November 15, 1937, to Samual and Margaret Hill.

Bob, as he was affectionally known, was a kind, gentle soul, a man of few words and always a willing hand to help others.

Bob was a lifetime member of Grant Memorial Baptist church, and he sang in the church’s choir – The Golden Echo choir. Bob graduated from Tec Voc in Winnipeg, and he greatly enjoyed taking part in various sports. He was a quarterback for his high school football team, as well, he played hockey and ran track. Bob went on to work for Air Canada for 34 years.

One of Bob’s favorite places was at the family cottage in the Whiteshell, where he spent his summers hosting many generations of his family as well as numerous friends. There was always room for another to join in at the cottage.

Bob was the quintessential family man; he was very supportive of his family’s activities and pursuits. Bob could often be found volunteering with Grant Memorial church, Girl Guides of Canada, and Scouts Canada. Often, he could be found being the “official bus driver” for trips that his kids went on with their youth groups. He also spent a lot of time helping set up and tear down many events for Guiding/Scouting and assisting with performances of the choir. Bob and Arlene also participated in several missionary missions abroad, through the church.

Bob was pre-deceased by his parents, his sister and her husband, Marilyn, and Derrick, his sister Peggy, his first wife Sylvia, his granddaughter Emily and his daughter’s husband David. He will be greatly missed by his son Stephen, wife Kim, grandchildren Matthew and Amanda, his daughter Aynsley and grandchild Eleanor. Bob was very fortunate to find love again after the passing of Sylvia. He married Arleen, and as such he gained an even larger family which includes Arleen’s children and grandchildren. He will also be missed by his remaining siblings Sam (Rita), and John (Audrey) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob has touched many lives and made a true impact on the lives of many.

Bob’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 19th, 2024 @ 2 pm at Grant Memorial Baptist Church located at 877 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg, with a reception following in the South Hall. Interment will take place at a later date.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers please consider donating to one of the following charities: Lisa Weir – D.I.Y. to Conquer Cancer, benefiting The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (https://supportthepmcf.ca/ui/DIY/p/3f2d7e5eebe84a7f8a821195100b0112), The Canadian Mental Health Association, or a charity of your choice.

  1. Bob will be missed so terribly much by his “Enclave family”. He was a gentleman and a gentle man, always ready to help others. Our thoughts are with you, Arlene and your family.

  2. Bob was one of the most kind and loving people we have had the pleasure of being good friends with for many years! We have spent many great times together both at the cottage and in their home or ours, over many amazing meals and fun Canasta games and Golden Echoes events etc. Bob and his parents were long-standing family friends. He was even mom and dad’s paperboy as a child. Bob has always been so easy to talk to and laugh with, and his energy level put many of us to shame. We will dearly miss out visits with Bob and Arleen, but we know we will see Bob again, but we hope we will have many years ahead with Arleen! Thank you Bob for all of the fun times! See you later!

  3. Arlene, we heard several days ago of Bob’s decease and were rather sad that we therefore didn’t attend the funeral. His parents were so kind to us when we first moved to Winnipeg from Ottawa and we therefore got to know Bob through them, then later in the seniors class at Grant, along with you. The family was loved firstly through Sam and Rita at the Met in Ottawa. May God sustain you in your loss, Arlene. 💔

Arlene we just heard today of Bob’s passing. We are so sorry for your loss. The lake and pig roast won’t be the same without him.
