Jason Louis Schwindt was born in Nanaimo, British Columbia on April 14, 1980, to parents Deb and Lou Schwindt.
He was the middle child of five kids. Jason then moved to Oak Lake, Manitoba alongside his family at the age of 5. Throughout his younger years, Jason could often be found working at his father’s shop or on the back of his horse, Moula. He was athletically inclined in anything he tried and most enjoyed playing football and rodeo during his high school years.
Jason went on to get his Red Seal Certification in Carpentry from ACC in Brandon, Manitoba after high school. He was a skilled carpenter and always had a knack for working with his hands. In 2002, Jason became a father when his son Layne was born in Brandon, Manitoba and the birth of Zoe followed in 2004. Jason was a hard-working, kind, and caring man to everyone he met. Over the course of his life, Jason took on the world as he loved the thrill of life and adventure. He loved to ride horses, race equipment, and go skydiving. At the age of 43, Jason’s battle with addiction and mental health tragically ended on July 30, 2023. He now resides in Heaven alongside Jesus, his Lord and Saviour.
Those left to mourn are his children Layne and Zoe; mother Deb; siblings Angie (Brad), Carie (Graham), Kyle (Sarah), and Shayla (Byron); and other family and friends.
A service will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Oak Lake Community Hall, Oak Lake, Manitoba. The interment will follow immediately at Johnston’s cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Adult & Teen Challenge www.teenchallenge.tc.

This is one of my favorite pictures of Jason when he was younger, riding his horse Moula. This picture encapsulates Jason’s talent, his zest for life, and spirit for adventure. He had a way of making physically difficult tasks for the rest of us seem so easy with his fearlessness and agility. Everyone who knew Jason knows that sparkle he carried in his eyes, and that sly smile – he was always ready for that next adventure. I have many fond memories with Jason and I feel this is an important picture to share, one that captured the amazing person he was. No human is perfect, but Jason had a heart of gold and you could trust him to help when the chips were down. I miss you, rest easy my friend and brother.
