Our family is deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of our beloved Samuel on May 6, 2023, at the age of 71. Sam passed away at Beacon Hill Lodge Care Center.
Samuel was born in San Fernando, Trinidad on April 7, 1952. He was the youngest brother of ten children.
Sam came to Canada in 1977 and settled in Winnipeg. He enjoyed most of his working years as a welder for Motor Coach Industries. He loved life and volunteering for ACS and the church’s Pathfinder Club. His favourite activities were biking, cooking, and playing board games with friends. His ambitions drove him to graduate from the Health Care Aide program with Herzing College after his retirement so that he could continue to help people.
Samuel accepted Jesus as his personal saviour and attended the Silver Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church where he was a member. Sam held on to the hope of one day soon becoming a new creation in Christ.
Survived by his devoted wife Ruth; daughters Margaret and Faith; three grandsons Trey, Micah and Malachi; youngest sister, Mavis and other family members and dear friends.
Samuel is predeceased by his parents Alonzo and Diana Best (formerly Cordis), his siblings Terence, Marjorie, Grace, David, Kenwyn, Thomas, Colleen, Claudette as well as other extended family.
Service will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at the Henderson Hwy Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1314 Henderson Hwy, and can also be viewed online through https://hendersonhwysda.ca/livestreaming/

I will always remember Sam, energetic and full of life and love. Riding bikes, canoeing, and fun outgoing personality. Rest in peace and God dear sir. You will be missed dearly. 💙
His wife Ruth was a super loving 🥰 & deeply devoted wife! I’m really touched that I know her & her ♥️ is dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ Almighty God! And so was Sam as well. He’ll certainly be missed, but he really was so very tired of his condition. Jesus Christ saw fit to lay Sam to rest. Sam’s just “soundly asleep” waiting for his Saviour Jesus Christ to waken him when he’s ready. He’s not ware of anything anymore. Sam deeply desired to go to sleep. Ecclesiastes 9:5 & 6. Genesis 2:7; Psalms 6:5; Ecclesiastes 9: 5, 6, 10. Psalms 13:3; John 11: 11-14. Sam had a definite relationship with his LORD & SAVIOUR Jesus Christ Almighty God. One day we’ll see him again in a brand new body & mind. PRAISE the LORD for that AWESOME GIFT 🎁 of ETERNAL LIFE with HIM in HEAVENLY JERUSALEM.
Rest in peace Sammy
My husband & I both knew Sam in different ways. He was always positive & always said he was doing “fabulous”. He will be missed. Sending love to his family.May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
I met Sam when I migrated here a decade ago; Sam was an awesome person who was kind, helpful, encouraging and happy, a social persona, at church he was the epitome of christianity. He radiated such positivity to everyone he comes in contact with even when he was not well, he would say, he’s doing Fabulous. My deepest condolences to his family and friends, may his soul rest on in peace.
I work with Sam for years at the Research & Development (R & D) Department of Motor Coach Industries. His positive attitiude in the workplace is always an encouragement to many employees around him. There is no dull days when Sam is around, he has great sense of humor. A very nice person and easy to get along with. He will be missed. Our hearfelt condolences to his family especially to his daughter Faith (good friend of my dauther Mariza).
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
I wanted to send my love and deep condolences on the loss of Sam. He was such a wonderful man and brought cheer into the room when he walked in. I send my love to Ruth and Faith who I know personally and also to all the rest of the family who will be grieving his passing. One day we will all be together again, and oh what a happy day that will be. May each memory you have of him bring you comfort through this painful time of loss.
I can’t say I knew Sam well. My first meeting with him was when he was helping my son David and Daughter-in-law Lori-Ann at their house on Falconer. Pizza was ordered and we all ate and had a visit. At the time I remember thinking he was such a kind soul. He was quiet spoken, but a great conversationalist. We shared some thoughts and laughs. We had a chance to meet only a few more times before I sadly learned of his diagnosis. I hope loved ones get comfort knowing he is now free of pain. I know he will be missed here on Earth. My condolences to all his family and friends. RIP Sam
My deepest sympathy to the immediate family, friends and loved of Uncle Sammy. Dat’s how I addressed him from ever since. One thing dat always stood out to me about Uncle Sammy was his smile. As an adult we didn’t have much interaction, but in speaking to my cousins I will always enquire of him.
I saddened to here of his transition, but the blessing in this, is knowing he had a relationship with God. And that makes my heart and spirit rejoice. May the peace of God and the comfort of His Holy Spirit rest, remain, and abide with you all at this time of loss and bereavement.
My love and prayers are you all. 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾❤️
I remember meeting Sammy when we moved to the neighbourhood in the late 70s. Our young families got to know each other. While our paths eventually went in different directions, I remember those days, his ever present smile, his swoops down our street on his bicycle and his always having a moment for a quick hello. Rest, now.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
My memory of Sam is when I took my mom to church after she was no longer able to drive. Sam always met her and helped her with her coat and boots. What a loving man he was!
