January 2, 1934 – October 29, 2022
In her 89th year, Vi Wood passed away peacefully at Lion’s Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, MB. She leaves behind her 6 children, Betty (Ken) Stoupe, Kent, John, Janet (Claude) East, Leone (Marc) Jackson and Hilton (Val) Wood. Her legacy includes 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She affectionately and proudly referred to this large family as “The Wood Pile”. Vi is also survived by her siblings, Vivian (Walter) Boyko, Peter Christofferson and Brenda Beasley.
Born in Swan River, MB and raised on the farm in Pretty Valley, MB, she married George in 1952 and following their wedding, moved to Snow Lake, MB, her home for 67 years. Mom’s life can be broadly defined in three phases: child rearing six young children, business owner and manager of the Friendly Giant Drive-In /Northwood Restaurant in Snow Lake, and Snowbird who spent 20 years in Suni Sands in Yuma, AZ. During their time together, she and Dad had the privilege of travelling to many far-off locations including Tasmania/Australia, Germany, Scotland, and England as well as trips across Canada and the United States. She was an avid curler, golfer, puzzle maker, Crypto quote decoder, and loved to garden and read.
Following Dad’s passing in 2015, Mom eventually sold the family home, and moved into an apartment where she enjoyed the close company of friends and neighbours. In May 2021, she made the difficult decision to leave her beloved Snow Lake and move to an assisted living complex in Winnipeg. Due to rapidly declining health, she made a final move to Lion’s Personal Care home in August of this year.
The family is grateful for the long and rich life that Mom had, the many friends she acquired along her path and the care she received in her final days. She was well loved and will be missed by many. A private Celebration of Life will be held on the morning of November 26, 2022.

Janet, and all the Wood families, so sorry to hear of your Moms passing. I loved your Mom and Dad. They were just the best people and I was privileged to know them. Your Mom had a lively spirit and jumped into life with everything she had. She will be missed.
Thank you Judy for your kind words. Our Mom has left us with many, wonderful memories to hold dear in our hearts. ❤️🙏
Vi will always hold a special place in my heart. She was a good friend and mentor. I’ll never forget the years I spent working for and along side her. She taught me how to be a good waitress and always treated me with respect. You always knew where you stood with her, when it was time to work and when it was time to have fun, and have lots of fun we did. She later took me onto her curling team and we enjoyed many games and bonspiels. I am so grateful for the times we spent together. My condolences to all her family. May you take comfort in all of your precious memories of her.
Thank you Lola for sharing your kind words and your memories. We will miss our Mom. I am thankful that we have the love and support of our siblings and wonderful friends.
